A while ago I modeled a CB&Q boxcar using a Branchline 40' car with new sidesills. I think I originally posted some photos back then on the old Atlas forum. On this car I originally added Athearn 70-ton ASF trucks but they were not quite right since the car actually had 50-ton trucks. Recently Tangent released the correct 50-ton ASF trucks so I added these new trucks to my older model. I also gave the car a good cleaning and touched up couple of things. To model the CB&Q a Moloco 50' roof was cut down to 40' and then Plano running board supports were added. The car with its prototypical trucks look good in a Penn Central train. New sidesills and a diagonal rivet strips along the doors were added to match the Burlington car. Archer rivets were also added. Car was painted PolyScale Chinese Red and then lettered with Microscale decals. Finally here is a photo of Tangent's new 50-ton ASF trucks. I only had to wait 10+ years to finally finish this car!

Great photographs of an outstanding model! The subtle weathering was well done. It looks like you also have a nice layout!

Nice work, all your cars look great! Where do you cut up the 50’ Moloco roof? Center or one end?

Nice work, all your cars look great! Where do you cut up the 50’ Moloco roof? Center or one end? Thanks everybody. The cuts were made per the following photo. Photo is for another model (a kitbashed PRR X54 boxcar) but the roof is cut the same. I make the cuts long then file each roof down by half. I usually get a very good fit this way once the roof is glued back together.

Thanks! The photo below shows how I make the cuts to the Moloco roof. In this case it was for another car but the cuts are the same. I make the cuts a little long to keep a full roof rib on each remaining piece. I then file each rib by half and usually end up with a nice full rib that does not requires any filler.

How do the Tangent trucks compare to the Genesis 70-ton trucks? I'm anxiously awaiting the hopefully upcoming release of Tangent ASF 70-ton trucks, but the Athearn trucks are already out there so I might just pick them up instead of waiting.

Tom, if you are interested in routing, CB&Q 19758 was assigned to appliance service for Whirlpool-Seeger in Evansville, IN on the C&EI.

I would say they are relatively close to each other in detail with a slight nod to Tangent. The Genesis trucks came either in near scale treads or the regular fat ones but I think that depended when they were released. Tangent offers both treads.
