The other challenge for this weekend is Baker is likely to declare a State of Emergency during the storm. Given the predictions, you -know- Baker will do so, with the prerequisite travel restrictions.

Definitely keep an eye on the weather. The storm has shifted west and Springfield will be impacted. A winter storm warning has been issued. According to the WWLP weather page, Springfield is on the edge of a 5”-9” and 8”-14” band. The show site will see more than a couple of inches of snow.

Current radar is interesting, it's much lighter than they anticipated, so far. You can watch on The Weather Channel's page where it jumps from current to future and the greens over the ocean get much bigger.
Even if it's a foot of snow, that's over a 24 hour period, that's not so bad. The biggest issue will be the winds blowing it around. Temps are going to be low enough where salt isn't as effective. People coming in from the west have to contend with that stretch of I-90 where they don't use salt, too.

What parts of 90 does get salt?

I lived in Colorado and Alaska and neither used salt just gravel.

My wife calls it "grit". I'm pretty sure NY Stated uses salt. Explains why some of the older cars get rusted out.

Every car in New York rots terribly if it's exposed. More so than any other state.
I guess it's "reduced salt area" but there's a stretch over the Berkshires that's fairly long, 6, 8 miles like this.

Covid pandemic aside, Why not have the show in April or May when there is a lot less chance of a Snowstorm?

In the north a train show is traditionally a winter event. When it's nice out people want to do outdoor things, particularly in the spring after being cooped up all winter. There used to be a show in Ithaca NY, held in a National Guard armory on the hill above the city. After 9/11 they didn't want to rent that for events anymore, so it ended up moving to an indoor soccer/hockey arena that was just being built. Part of the change meant it moved from the third weekend in March, to the third weekend in April. Attendance plummeted down to the last year they had it saw about 800 in two days. It was 70' and sunny and so slow I was going outside, painting junk rolling stock with a spray can, buying decals off the guy across from me, and I finished two or three cars and an engine by the end of the day. They weren't making any money so they quit. My suggestion was to downsize it to a one day show and find a hotel ballroom or something to hold it in, but the club running it has a large modular layout and wanted to put that up and run it and it's not worth setting those up for one day.
From what I hear Greenberg does I think three shows in Edison and the summer one is the slowest of the three, too.
As to shows cancelled or really hurt by bad weather; one year a freak storm dumped 7 feet on Buffalo and the WNYRHS show was cancelled; one year a bad storm came in that got the Utica show cancelled, and there was a year the weather was terrible for the RIT show on Saturday and the attendance was poor. I don't remember any others getting cancelled although I am sure there's other shows that the weather affected. In the 25 odd years I've gone to Springfield this would only be the second time there's been bad weather and the first where so many cancelled out.
So far this storm looks like a big nothing, MassDot traffic cams show clear roads and no issues despite the radar showing snow over the area. It's never grown to the predicted sizes in their models.

Snow isn’t supposed to get heavy until the daytime. I'd be out there shoveling right now if the wind wasn't so bad...

This storm has always been an eastern storm. I've been enjoying watching the weather folks try and puzzle this one out.
I am south of Worcester so I am in well in the "get nailed" territory.

Looking at the VR camera feeds, there are a few attendees. Lots of open space.

I just looked the traffic cams over again. A lot of one lane on the interstates, but bare pavement is visible. I've driven further when it was much worse. Looks like the worst of the snow starts just east, you'd have to take it easy coming from Boston.

Oh Jeez, You guys are getting nailed in this one. We're on a normally well traveled street, but one plow comes by every couple of hours. Going out now as the door has almost a foot of snow above the sill. Don't want it to freeze.

Checked the Springfield Station webcam to get an idea of the snow depth out there. There was a 9 car Amtrak train (powered by #93) just sitting in the station. Normally I would think that it would be just a short stop to drop off and pick up eastbound passengers. Wonder what was up. The CDOT train was not there at the time.

Looking at the VR camera feeds, there are a few attendees. Lots of open space. Can't sleep, got up and speed watched a couple of live feed walkaround videos (meaning I skipped the layouts and just watched the bits that showed vendors and views around the buildings). Attendance was more or less nil for Saturday and yes much more open space than past years. A number of no-shows. And one vendor was able to set up, but never came in Saturday, tables were covered up still in the afternoon. Space-wise they probably could have moved everyone out of the smallest building into the others, apparently they did move a few vendors out of there to better fill the existing spots in the others. The narrow gauge engine was even inside in the Mallary complex. Makes me wonder if I could have showed up and got a table somewhere.

What a strange day it was. I would say it was busier than Saturday but the crowd was very light. Even at 1:00 it was relatively easy to move around. The parking area on the river side was largely empty when we left. It will be interesting to hear what the total attendance was. I know a light crowd spread out there can still be a lot of people but I wouldn't be shocked if the total is about half pre-pandemic.

They had 4K people Saturday. Average for a Saturday is 10k.
Yesterday did feel weird. Thr strsngest part was almost no lines at the food stations.

I guess it's a mixed blessing. Less congestion/crows to get in your way, but also fewer fewer companies there. Were vendors down from the norm and if so, by how much?

They were down. The big ones off the top of my head were AA Hobbies, Tangent, Tony's Trains, and Charles Ro.

I had a job out in Coventry RI in 1998 but was staying in Warwick. I visited AA a number of times and bought models and some books. I even got to go in the basement and browse the additional shelves. One of the better shops I've been in country wide.

They are hanging on, but John, the owner, has been battling health issues for a few years and is mostly retired. He hasn't been in the store for years I think.
