Some of the SD45's were labeled SD40M, at least some SP had in the later years. Those were SD40M-2s rebuilt for SP by MKM/MPI. All of the CEFX Bluebirds were the same thing. CP also had a small fleet of them, which I believe were ex DRGW SD45s.

As for the CP ones: 5490 was built as SP 9031 5493 was DRGW 5333 5494 was DRGW 5316 5495 was DRGW 5318 5496 was DRGW 5330 5497 was DRGW 5336 5498 was SSW 9055

CP doesn’t have any SD40-3s with new cabs. CSX and NS have been done SD40-3 rebuilds with their own cab designs, but CP’s SD40-3 are externally the same as a normal SD40-2. Bowser already produced CP SD40-3 units, from a group of 20 late CP rebuilds of factory delivered SD40-2 units. I thought Bowser told me the cabs were rebuilt and were slightly different from the original, but I might have recalled incorrectly. However, I also would argue that they do NOT look the same as a normal SD40-2 with regard to the rooftop conduit and the extra strobe lights, and the fact that they have the later (SD60 series) blower bulge on the left side in lieu of the original SD40 series bulge.

The same goes for the SD30C-ECOs, what kind of blower duct each one has depends on what the donor unit had. CP 6025-6069 and 5865-79 all had them as built, as did a couple wrecked units that got sent back to GMD and rebuilt. 5583 was one.

I’m not sure where you’re getting your information, but CP only has 10 of them, and other than the strobes, they are identical externally to how they were built, minus the bell being relocated and class lights removed. The strobes have nothing to do with them being SD40-3s and plenty of other railroads have SD40-2s that have strobes on them due to remote control equipment being added. Regarding the blower bulge, just about every Dash 2 built during and after 1983 has that style, it’s a spotting feature of the very late built Dash 2s.

Has there been any recent update from ScaleTrains regarding the CN/IC Dash-9s? Seems like they said they were going to reproduce them and then it's all gone quiet ever since.
