Me too ! A couple of the other forums attempted to pick it up when the old Atlas forumites joined their forums, but it was never the same. The MR forum has a week-end photo fun thread, and while it usually gets a lot of activity, for the most part, the quality just isn't up to what the old Atlas forum was.
No offence to this forum, but there just isn't anything out there anymore that compares to the old Atlas forum. It was a unique mix.
Mark.

The previous Sunday Nite Photo Fun did not start instantly. Most of that type of posts took time to catch on. Members get involved one at a time and watch for it over and over so it could be enjoyed here also if you start and keep it going until others catch on. Why not start it up this weekend and let everyone know it is available and see what happens. It probably will take several weeks to get it going but if it takes off in a month or so, you will have started it up here. Larry

I made a couple posts this week of a locomotive and group of cabooses I did and they were very lightly acknowledged.
Railroad-Line forum has a Sunday photo thread that usually is well participated in....

I would definitely welcome back a Photo-Fun over each weekend. A designated space to share photos would work well, and was a favorite part of the old forum. Karl, I went back since you mentioned it. I over-looked your post, and I think that could be a problem----that the individual posts sometimes get lost in the shuffle. It's not because your cars are un-interesting; I think they look GREAT. But I think maybe a designated thread would be a good thing, and keep from having people's work from being overlooked. -Jeffrey

If Donnel is ok with it, the photo fun topic could be stickied or pinned too.

Could have a designated sub-section just for the weekend photo fun, then each Sunday, title the thread with the date. That way they would all remain easily accessable.

Why not put it in the Crew Lounge and let all the scales participate in one spot. That way everybody can see what the other scales are doing modeling wise.

That's where Donnell put the threads last May, and where they apparently died. I like the idea of having them back in the HO scale forum. Also, I may actually have something to contribute if the thread comes back. I have finally got some modeling underway again.

Ok,so you want one in the HO forum, the N scalers already have one ,that leaves the O scale folks, but what about those of us that are in the other scales?
Or maybe we just don't count.

Yeah...I'll be "that guy" and pour a bit of cold water on this thread and say that a few rules and moderation would need to be created/followed (Glad I'm not a moderator). Infrequently, on the old SPF threads, a select few would make postings of for sale items but never explicitly state the items were for sale. A necessary, but hard to enforce rule.
Oddly enough, critique within the old SPF threads never was that big a problem. Most members know this is a two way street. Mostly just great railroad modeling in those old threads.

I guess I fail to se the problem here. I'm ok with seeing a well done model regardless if the builder plans to keep it or not. You said yourself it's not being advertised as for sale, so what's the problem?

I miss the old sunday photo fun. When I was custom painting full time, it was a great place to show off my latest projects. I learned quite a bit myself figuring out how other people built their models also. Enjoy! Kelley. www.dufordmodelworks.com

I'd bet that Ray could likely afford a real nice layout, whether he did the hands on or not.
Generally, if you built it and want to post it on the internet, good on you. You know what your stuff looks like. Putting it out there is a service to others. If you think it makes your stuff look good, I guess I don't see the need to gloat. After all, your stuff IS better than Jeff's when you think it deserves a couple of big ol' raspberries, right...right?
Congrats, big deal.
I'd welcome a weekly photo thread. I participate over at MR. Don't always have pics, but will always try to avoid doing the jr high thing on someone's else's work outta respect for myself, if not for them.

Ok,so you want one in the HO forum, the N scalers already have one ,that leaves the O scale folks, but what about those of us that are in the other scales? Or maybe we just don't count. I was referring to the HO Sunday Photo Fun and the Thursday Proto Photo threads that used to appear in the HO forum on the old Atlas forum and were briefly posted here when this forum started. Honestly, I don't care what's posted in the N and O scale forums. I don't check them since I don't build any models in those scales, not because I have anything against N scalers, O scalers or anyone else. If you interpreted my statement as any kind of slam against anyone, you misunderstood my message.

You said yourself it's not being advertised as for sale, so what's the problem? The item(s) in question weren't specifically stated as for sale in the SPF thread; however, the items posted either had a link to or photo's were stored on a site that linked to models that were being "peddled". Not a blatant rule violation, but a violation of the intent of the rule nonetheless (it's a fine line). The user(s), to remain unnamed, were clever in getting around the rule prohibiting postings of "For Sale" items. The rule(s) specifically excluded custom painted items that had been paid for...that way we don't exclude postings by professional modelers who contract their work (like John at Southern Tier and others)

Guys,Let me share with you how fast your health and modeling skills can go South. Before March 2005 I considered myself to be above average but,not a advanced modeler. After my near stroke in March of 2005 I lost the use of my once dominate right hand and had to learn to do things with my off hand..After much painful therapy I regain limit use of my right hand and regain very little use use of my right thumb and forefinger. Needless to say my modeling took a southbound plunge to a point where the very basics can be troublesome. I learn to overcome some things by using a Bowser cradle but, make no mistake my modeling is well below my old modeling. Point? You never know what health conditions or handicaps a modeler may have that sits behind the computer. Here's one of my left hand modeling projects..Passable at best.

While the idea of sharing photos may sound all kumbaya to some, the realization is the probability of the weekly thread going smoothly each and every go around is remote. Just look at the angst in the last half of this thread! Go back and read some of the subtle jabs on the old Atlas forum towards the end.
For all those that don't remember or are late to the party, the weekly SPF thread ran out of steam towards the end on the Atlas forum. It also crashed and burned on this very forum.
One reason SPF hit the wall over at Atlas, was it was the mostly the same people posting photos. After a while the thread started to become like one long rerun. Just like watching reruns over and over on TV, SPF became stale, for you knew the ending. Every Sunday, it was mostly the same people posting photos, sometimes of the same rolling stock just in some other spot on the layout. It gets a little boring.....okay....I said it. Some of the people that used to make SPF hum with excellent modeling and photography had either left the forum or stopped posting. Mrmrl(Robbie is the name I think) left, Scooter(don't know a name) disappeared and the list goes on.
There is not much reason to log on to view pale stale ale week after week.

I would rather see a picture of a newly painted and decaled model or a newly detailed model as a topic so questions can be asked.

The real question that remains unanswered is where to put it. The obvious would be the crew lounge to get other scale to participate but it seems the HO is pretty active so possibly more participation...maybe Donnell or another moderator can help with where to start the thread ChrisP
