A bit early but the makes the fun even better. Not exactly this weekend but last week I ran some trains on a modulair layout in the village of Bathmen. The venue will be demolished so the modules will be taken out during january so this was the last time I was able to run a train there. In the album on Flickr are four other photos of that day.

And here is the western rail dual exhaust on the Kato GP35. Next step will be stripping the unit.

Yup, one of the things you can be sure of you rent a place for housing a layout (modulair or build in place) it will be closed, demolished or the contract canceled. Sometimes it takes a couple of years but it always happens and when it happens it is always to soon.
This is also partially because the revenue a landlord can get from a modelclub is relative low.

I wanted to have a productive week hobby wise and I accomplished my goal Lombard had these Walthers bulkhead flats on blowout, i picked up a few of them. Here's the first one i've completed, a simple weathering job, Tangent trucks and ACI plates. Very pleased with out this one turned out. These bluebox CNJ hoppers have been hovering in the background of my bench for months now, I originally got these for the West Island clubs operations fleet, but they have since been diverted to the personal stock. I've finally started swapping out the clunky athearn trucks for accurail or branchline ones I had sitting in my parts box, a simple dullcoat and powder weathering job closes them out. Few more to do, maybe by the time I finally got to return to work. Athearn cars from the latest release get the "fleet" treatment, i'm partial to the hamms car, during my near decade in Minnesota I sampled quite a bit of the beer made in the land of the sky blue waters.

hudsonyard, very nice work!
Sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s, Hamm's took over a brewery in Baltimore, Maryland and ran radio advertisements with the song that started, "From the land of sky blue waters . . ." during Orioles games, to which one of my cousins and I listened in suburbs west of Philadelphia, PA.

Been very hectic for me lately. But finally got some projects finished. First is a Free lanced Norfolk Western B9 boxcar. Believe this was an IM kit. Next is a boxcar I got inspiration to do from the SPF. Branchline kit built into a Chesapeake Western B90 with scratch built door. Great work everyone! Have a great modeling New Year!

ÖBB's Rh 1014 hauls a nine rake consist over the Brenner Pass in the Alps. Roco DCC model and Roco Fals side-discharge hoppers. Sister locomotives ÖBB 1142s, 683 and 684 arrive at the station. One pulling an IR train and the other pushing a City Shuttle. Both Roco models with Jägerndorfer and Roco coaches. Erfurter Bahn Service Br.232 and Euro Dual Br.159 getting some freight moving. Awesome looking stuff. Are familiar with the differences between the BR101 and BR185? Like do pico or roco use the same drive for both?

I might need one of these in the collection of things that I don't need!

Stadler makes the prototype, and SudExpress in Portugal makes the model. This one has servo-driven operating pans, and operating fans in diesel mode. I hadn't mounted the euro coupler n this yet...Stadler is prominently displayed on the front, and two blue builder's plates on the sides. If you look closely, you can also see Stadler just below the top step on the left in the photo.

I don't have either locomotive in my fleet, but a Piko Br.101 is high on my list. The Br.101 locomotive has recently pulled from service with Deutsche Bahn and many are being scrapped.

1/1/2024, starting 9:38 p.m., EST, after watching the PBS TV version of today's New Year's Concert from Vienna, Austria after having listened to the American radio version of the full concert this morning.
When did Hamm's start using the jolly looking bears? I don't remember those.
Thanks for all the photos of great modeling and useful information that others have posted.
I hope to get enough work done in the next day or two to justify taking time to get a ScaleTrains Kit Classics Erie mill gondola properly assembled. I'm satisfied with its decoration and content with its level of detail, considerably better than the old Athearn non that was the first HO car I ever bought, ca. 1958. I've discovered that I'll need to do a little work on the simple kit to allow proper location of the ends; the floor casting is a little too long. I hope I can shorten it using a mill file or careful sanding. If I can't do that I'll have to shorten one of the ends to make it fit. One of the ScaleTrains staffers thinks the coupler boxes should accept Kadee whisker couplers without modification; I hope that is accurate. Once I have it assembled I'll try to modify the interior of its box to allow me to store the gon with a load considerably taller than its sides.

Looks like I'm a little late to the party. I've been messing around with this Athearn FP7. It's been renumbered, relettered, and redetailed. Weathering consists of mostly oils and enamels. Looks fantastic! I’m curious, how do you do your numberboards? Are those numbers printed as one decal or backing behind the glass? They really stood out to me, since there’s no hint of individually applied decal numbers the way you sometimes see them on custom models. Dave

Yes, I printed that numberboard as one decal with the black numbers and gasket printed on a white background. When doing white numbers on a black background, I have to print the numbers separately from the background decal. The ALPS doesn't like to print white on top of black. I'm finding it increasingly more difficult to keep individually applied numbers and letters straight as my eyes age, so being able to print them as one decal is a huge help.

Moving this to the correct SPF... Got to do some running over the holidays on my home club layout which models Pittsburgh PA to Wheeling WV. My Canadian is finally at a reasonable length after years of acquiring the various pieces / parts: GO Service is having a slight detour as well: That is one HEAVY DUTY bridge, anymore photos of the entire structure?

That is one HEAVY DUTY bridge, anymore photos of the entire structure? It was 3D printed by a club member to replace a bridge that used to be there (a Walthers kit if I recall correctly). The bridge and riverbed are on a hinge to allow us access into Wheeling (you stand where the river runs). Video tour of the club here: Bridge details at this linked timestamp:

1/2/2024, starting at 1:31 p.m., EST, with interruptions for family matters
Well, I got some work done and then managed to spend a few minutes having some fun with my ScaleTrains Kit Classics Erie 70-ton mill gondola. I was able to pry its floor casting out of the car body casting using a small screwdriver with a straight tip. I couldn't find my mill file to shorten one end. It may be in a storage area two miles from our home. I also couldn't locate even a suitable small block of wood to use with a piece of fine sandpaper I found here. I improvised by folding the sandpaper around a trusty white rectangular Penntel Hi Polymer eraserinstead; that worked well enough that both ends are not properly in place. My next step will be to get to the storage area and find some Kadee whisker couplers that are surely there. I do have some older style ones here at home.

Very Nice. So did the printer print out the entire bridge or sections? I'm not up on 3D printing. I wasn't involved with the print, but I would assume in sections / pieces that were then assembled. Most 3D printers have a limited print volume that can be completed in one "print".
