Looks like a visual nightmare for the crew. Like a Brinks truck. From what I have observed online; it's no worse than the Meatballs or Hippos, or NJT's ALPs. However, it's what inside that counts, that is performance and function. The HHPs and Acela have decent forward vision, but crappy side viability. This motor looks to be an improvement.

Looks like a visual nightmare for the crew. Like a Brinks truck. I think the front view is OK, but what if the crew wants to look out the side?? Larry

Sirs and that naughty 'Ozzie-terror' The front view for the driver is far superior to the diesels that are either side of it. I don't know the position of the drivers desk in relation to the side door/window so can't comment. I am an ex steam man and we lived part hanging out the cab side infact when changed to diesel and braking we all initially dropped the side window to get the '''feel''' for when braking. If the bogie wheelbase is long enough then you will get a ride as good as a six wheeled bogie. Our first Bo+Bos could do 90mph not that our class of trains ever got above 25mph (unbraked wagons and engine brake only). The little lady might just pick her skirt up and give her big sisters a good run for their money. In my minds eye she is beautiful but each to their own. I'm afraid in a choice of driving a steamer or diesel or electric I would plump for the steamer every time.....Jim

Just a thought-I'll be careful 'cos I believe thinking can cause brain damage-maybe the side windows are fitted with mirrors so the driver can see to the rear?.....James.

Side windows? Who needs side windows when the locomotive is equiped with camera's. the camera's are next to doors close to the air intakes = little bulges. These camera's work fine, I know this because I drive such engines overhere in Belgium. They are powerfull, very reliable and the cab is an ocean of silence.

Today 6/6/2013, #6 Amtrak included the Electric Siemens built 601 east. This is the second unit for the order of the Electric unit that will be used in the Northeast tracks. I am not sure if this one is going to the test site or east to be checked out. If you notice the fan openings for the 600 compared to the 601, the 600 has five and the 601 has two. This might be right to left side views as the 601 has the F and the 600 does not have the F. I am surprised a F is used since this is a dual cab type of locomotive. Anyone got an idea of how they decide? Larry
