I noticed they still have the F indicating front. It must be a FRA rule, since this unit is a dual cab. Anyone know about the marking?

It would get confusing for everyone without the F stencil. Crew members give radio instructions "ahead" and "backup" according to the F stencil on the controlling locomotive. An engine like this without an F stencil could lead to some unexpected moves.

That probably was not true when they first were built back in the thirties, but rules change and rules require compliance. Larry
