A recent incident spawned what I figure would make a good funny story thread: what's the weirdest thing you've encountered when buying a model? Odd stuff in the box? Missing parts? Weird bugs inside or packing materials? An Athearn Genesis F7A box with a Bachmann F9 in it? Baggies of cocaine instead of that Intermountain hopper kit?
I'll start out with my recent purchase: I had bought a junker loco off eBay for parts. It was a Lionel U18B shell custom mounted on a Proto 2000 Geep frame, and for ~$20 it was a decent source of drive/chassis parts for another unit. I'll admit whoever did the work did a decent job of modifying the chassis and mounting the shell on it.
I get the model, run it back and forth, and decide to pop open the shell and have a look inside. I get part of the front off and see something scurrying about where the cab is. Carefully removing the shell, I look inside and see a small live cockroach scurrying around in the shell! Mr. Roach got flushed pretty quickly, and the whole unit was disassembled and got a good scrubbing in soap (except the motor, of course).

I bought a few Blue Box caboose kits at a show years ago and found 3 20 dollar bills inside one of them.

Wife recently brought home an older model rr kit she picked up at an antique store and presented it to me all happy and smiles! I opened it to fine about 20 get well cards someone had saved in the box after the kit was built.

For me it would have to be the tiny piece of rice or Chinese noddle I found the gears of a Atlas SD35.

The weirdest thing I've encountered I got a Walthers sales flyer that went all the way to Sweden before coming to Ky.
