With atlas painting #373 in Rock blue and white does anyone know about when the real #373 got its blue and white paint job? I know the #3000 series rebuilds were pretty much right before shutdown.

I have nothing productive to add to this thread other than I painted 373 years ago... I'm mildly suprised Atlas has skipped over the 4700 series in red/yellow/speedlettering and went to bankruptcy blue, but not really concerned since I painted them all at one point anyways. I'm sure someone like RI652 will be along shortly to answer your original question. Enjoy! Kelley. www.dufordmodelworks.com

The closest I can narrow it down is sometime between 4-76 and 4-79.

Was the 373 rebuilt?
The model has the power assembly removal doors on the roof.

Not that I've seen, but the rebuilt GP40's came out right before shutdown so who knows what the larger plan was. They were mainly used to round up freight cars for sell off after the shut down. The U33Bs were paired with slugs.

This is the Rock Island GP40 that Atlas SHOULD do:

After I typed that in, I remembered that it was the rebuilt U33B's that got the slugs. The slugs were cut down U25B's. Bankruptcy Blue is a rather dark and depressing period for fans and ESPECIALLY the now former employees.

I agree they should do #4710 but years ago they said the 4700 series is a different phase GP40 so they would not do it. They did make a foobie RI caboose so who knows, maybe they will. IIRC it wasn't just the 4700s that got the red/yellow speed lettering, hoping for those in the future also.
