Good Wednesday morning to all our Forum Friends. The lounge is open, most of the equipment has been delivered and breakfast is on the go! Fresh brewed coffees, both leaded and unleaded. The eggs are stacked and await your order. The grill is laden with bacon, sausages, and ham slices. The stove has a pan each of oatmeal and grits. The counter is full, with platters of biscuits, bluberry muffins, breads, cold cereals, granola bars, yogurts and fresh fruit. The canned drinks, milks and juices are in the ice tub. The fridge should be here tomorrow. Didn't go out back last night. The workday lasted too long, but at least I managed to make some decent progress on the admin side, between patrolling, calls for service, phone calls and folks stopping in. Stop in, give the place a look see and don't hesitate to ask for what you want. You never know what someone else might have brought in or could be whipped up by the "chef". Hope that one and all have a good day.

Happy hump day--or night, now. I got delivery confirmation Bachmann got my DOA Climax, we'll see how long the turnaround is. Other than that, I'll have a cup of decaf and a sesame bagel, thanks.

I made it to the downhill side of hump day without breaking anything or anybody. It's all good.

I got a post card back from Bachmann yesterday, telling me it will be July 3 or so before they can take a look at the Climax. I called Digitrax yesterday, and they told me I need to send in my Zephyr for repair. My computer seems to be back to normal. It seems my Kindle program had a corrupted file that was doing weird things. No further problems--so far.

That's some not so good news, bnsf971. Hope the turnaround time with Digitrax won't be too long. Dave, I appreciate the look-in. I'm hanging in there, but this is gonna be a very loooooonnnnggggg week. Tis only hump day and I've got two more to go. It'll probably be mid to late June before we'll be close to having the new guy somewhat ready to turn loose.

Who sent for the rain? It's enough to make a fellow hide in the train room all day.

I don't know WHO sent it, but I'm glad we've got some coming. Just not quite sure when it's going to get here. I'll have to put my rain hat on after work and "run" out to the train building and run trains to celebrate!! ;D

Good morning. Looks like the rain and thunderstorms are moving on--finally. The power only went out once, but my street flooded early yesterday morning, making travel to work an adventure. Then, yesterday evening on my way home from work, a woman ran a stop sign, and I plowed into her. No injuries, but she of course has no insurance. Maybe the law should be re-written so that, in case of accident, if you don't have insurance, you get pulled out of your car and shot on the spot. Well, maybe not, but it's kind of fun at this point to think about, for me at least.

Good Morning Terry and the rest of the Forum Folks. Got an early call-out, so didn't get a chance to fire up the grill or the stove. It's almost lunch time, so..... Turkey sandwiches, BLT's, ham or chicken salad sandwiches and in case you missed your eggs, egg salad sandwiches. A variety of chips and cold drinks, tea and lemonade available, too. Of course the coffee is always on! I almost forgot, we've got bananas for Miss Dee, but I'm still trying to find a supplier for termites!! Terry, sure hate to hear about the mishap. Glad no one was hurt. Sure hope you don't have too much difficulty getting your vehicle repaired. Jerry, sounds like you're chomping at the bit to get going! Fill us in on how it went and any pics you might care to share. Managed to get out back for some train running/switching for a while last night. Working a long shift today, so not likely to make it out back this evening. We'll see, though. Had on/off rain yesterday and more on tap for us today and tomorrow. No complaints as we can use it. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning everybody.
Terry, that's a bummer about your car. I've been there and done that, but I was lucky in that I carried insurance that covered uninsured motorists.
I took a break from drafting yesterday, and did some bike riding, and I'll probably do the same today. I think that today should be the last day of drafting, and then I get to start readjusting everything down to scale. Last night I did get a chance to add some roof detail to the Schtuck Window Company.
Miss Dee, it sure is good to have you over here. I missed your wonderful words of wisdom. Have a banana on me.

I have uninsured motorist as well, but if you read your policy carefully, it probably only applies to bodily injury. I know mine does. I have to wonder about the people in the area where I live. 2 years ago, I stopped for a stop sign, and was rear ended. The woman that hit me said she didn't think I was going to stop. 6 months after that, I was in the car we got to replace that one, and an female illegal alien pulled out of a side street and hit me head on as I was sitting in the left turn lane with my left turn signal on. She didn't speak english, but the interpreter said she thought I should have gotten out of her way. Now this one. She said she thought I was going to make a right turn. No reason, she just thought I was. At least I don't have to worry about people wanting to hitch rides from me...

My car was fully covered. I had one of my 68 Impalas, and had collector car insurance on it. I was also lucky that it was not one of my main cars, and that the parts were easy to replace (bolt on).

I've investigated countless wrecks over 36 years in this business, but I seldom get many "repeat customers". Are you getting this one fixed or are you having to replace it?

Good Morning JB and the rest of the Forum Folks. Nice of you to leave the lighs on James. Overcast day once again with slight chances of more rain. That's ok, though, as we haven't had any real long, heavy downpours, so the ground is soaking it up. The mid-week coffees are brewed up. Plenty of eggs on hand to be cooked to your order. The pans of oatmeal and grits are warming on the stove. Thin chops, ham slices, sausage links & patties and bacon, sizzle away on the grill. Bixcuits, muffins and donuts are on the counter and of course the drinks, juices and milks are in the cooler. There are also several bunches of bananas. Make sure ya'll leave some for Miss Dee! As we went to Lowe's to pick up and price some things, then went out to eat, I didn't get any train time in. James, I hope someone here can fill you on on the motive power needs for your trains. Wishing a good day for one and all.

Not exactly sure what to make of it, Larry.
While it sounds interesting, I seriously doubt it will have long term sustainability or acceptance.
As it may be "modified" coal, I can't help but be reminded of an old fast food commercial talking about chicken nuggets, I believe, and the phrase ..."parts is parts" comes to mind, as in, coal is coal, even if it's refined coal.
But what do I know, I'm a lifelong cop, not a scientist or engineering grad. ;D

So what would a coal refinery look like? What would refined coal look like? Would you need hoppers or tank cars?

James Brodie, I can sure relate to the abundance of water. I'm getting sick of it. It's insane that this late in the year, there are still a few places that we have to use the old pickup with the 6 inch lift and swamper tires.
I've been feeling rather lonely over on the N scale side of things. Hopefully we'll get some more people posting there.

Bright sun and clear cool weather in MI with no rain in sight, nor in the past, either. It's very dry and getting to crisis status for ag interests here about.
Too bad about the accident Terry. Here in MI you are required by law to be insured, it is a no-fault state so what ever coverage you decide to have determines what is covered, from the minimum property dame and liability, it will cover basic liability but your bent stuff doesn't get fixed to full coverage that will fix your stuff. No Insurance is a ticketable offense and COULD lead to license suspension or even jail, as well as impounding of the vehicle.
Everyone have a good day.
BE SAFE!!

Thanks James for trying to recruit more members! Been a heck of a week and it's looking like it will continue to be more of the same for the rest of it and even possibly the weekend. Could be an 8 day straight workweek before it's over with. I'm hoping at least 1 part-timer will sign up for the weekend!! Had to attend a special, called meeting of the Town Board last night and it's was recessed till tomorrow night! They have to vote on an issue a 2nd time. Time for a glass of wine, kick back in the recling couch and relax. Hope everyone had a good day.

Good Wednesday Evening to all the Forum Folks.
Hope everyone is enjoying the July 4th "Holiday". Not been home long and I have to pick up my son from work at 9:00p.m. Won't make it to any fireworks displays as I'm working again tomorrow, so I'm calling it a night rather early, I hope!
Enjoy the evening's festivities. ;D

morning gents-well it is here 08-24 and it's still raining!-been puzzling out how to transfer photos. I managed to get a blue writing code of sorts which when I clicked on it a photo opened up but now I can't find it. Must learn to write all my moves down then I might make some sense if that is possible with a 76 year old Yorkshireman with a Scotch surname and going to live in Shetland. The granny flat has been decided on instead of a sea shore bungalow I just need miss modom to send me dimensions and then I can re-plan my layout.Modom promised me all the upstairs for my railway so just need to win the lottery to be able to buy some brass big boys and cab forwards and an Atlas 0-6-0 switcher. Nice to dream. but I suppose that's biblical isn't it. Jim.

Good Evening Jim and the rest of the Forum folks!! Been busy, busy, busy and accomplishing very, very little!! We had our regularly scheduled Town board meeting last night. Lasted just over 45 min I also spent a good bit of time with my Captain, helping her finish up the paperwork on the fatal traffic accident we had on Saturday afternoon. Lots of other Admin/Chiefly duties to attend to that are keeping me from getting anything approaching useful, done. Trains, Yep, I still have 'em!! Hope the wheels don't get rusty from lack of use or that the spiders move in and take over! Jim, on your trains, are you refering to the "hose" on the KD couplers that is catching the center rail on some parts of your trackage? If so, You might want to use either a pair of needlenose pliers or a KD coupler trip pin pliers to adjust those offending "hoses" (trip pins) so they don't get caught on the center rail. I don't let the two cats on the layout, IF I let them in the train building at all. Good luck on acquiring the necessary right of way for a layout at the granny flat.

Thanks Mike, It is the 'hose' on the couplers. I must see about a KD trip pin pliers, do they do them for 0 gauge? Jim-sorry it's Sunday-James.

Post by rhpd42002 on Jul 15, 2012 7:56:20 GMT -8
As it's Sunday, James, the trip pin plies are designed for all of their coupler scales. If you're careful, you can use needle-nose pliers, but you don't have good control when bending the trip pins with them. Also, you can sometimes put nicks in the trip pins with them, whereas the trip pin pliers are rounded and smooth.

Today is a mixed one for me. I got my DCC command station back from the manufacturer, but I have caught a cold from my wife. Summer colds are the worst. I'm going to go lay down.
