It's back to raining again here, and looks like we'll have cool and rainy for the next few days. I can't think of a better reason than that for spending time up in the model room.
I was under the weather for most of last week, but it gave me a chance to do some track planning and see ways to improve my layout, which I plan to do this week. Thanks to all those who've been giving advice. That really shows how important this forum is.

Good evening Douglas and the rest of the Forum Folks.
As usual, it's been a Monday and tomorrow evening is sure to be worse, due to the special, called meeting of the Town Board. I'm hoping I don't have to remove anyone from the meeting, but........ this one looks to be hostile and heated. Not looking forward to it at all. I did get out back and ran a couple trains last night, which was certainly relaxing and fun. Tried to call my parents to see how my sister is doing (or not doing), but only got the answering machine. Will try tomorrow night after the meeting, as it is my Dad's birthday. Not much else going on.
Hope that one and all had a good day.

Gdevnin folks, modom is quilting, the tom cat moggie wants to be on my knee, sit in front of the monitor, lay on the ironing board where he might get his tail flat-ironed!wash my lugs and chew my knuckles...I think he is telling me he wants feeding but Mitsie she is still asleep on our bed so when she wakes I'll go down and feed the brutes. I love them really. Did a bit more sorting out of pointwork ready for the new layout. I had loads of questions to ask about American railroad practices but once I sat down my mind went blank! Oh yes, where can one buy 0 gauge water columns or water towers for when the steam engines need to replenish their water supply? The older style like from the 1930s and does anyone do 0 gauge diagrams to help one construct steam engines in the 4-4-0 4-4-2 and small prairie or ten wheelers or small 2-8-2s and drovers cars and odd passenger cars. Also in the 49 time did any steamers work the CZ train on any parts of it's journey other than taking the coaches through the carriage washing plants. Well I've drunk my mug of coffee, sorted a dvd to watch when we go to bed. There is nowt worth watching on the TV channels and I have nearly worn the engines out watching the Emporer of the North, it's sad poor Ernie has passed away although 95 is a good innings isn't it. Mind our guards (conductor) wouldn't speak to us like that or my fireman might have clagged them. It would be nice to see any other railway stories as authentic as that film. was New York Central in vogue in the 30s? still a most enjoyable film and except for the engine I could recreate the train consist although I'm not so keen on setting a stock car on fire. Now I have fotobucket just need to learn how to transfer my photos onto the forum. Jim Brodie.

Good day everybody. I hope all those who are suffering from the heat can soon get some relief. It's been quite a busy time around here for the last few days. If life would get out of the way, I could get back to modeling.

WOT HEAT! WE are all getting webbed feet over here! In Wails they have had a months rainfall in one day, still shouldn't need to go out and water the leeks should they. One thing we are seven hundred foot above sea level so needn't get the wellies out just yet. Jim.

Good evening Jim and Douglas. We reached 100F today. The cool down should commence after these t-storms settle down tonight. We should have scattered storms for the next few afternoon/evenings. I think we're expecting mid to upper 80's for the next few days instead of the 95 - 100 we've been having. Jim, I keep hearing/reading that the UK is much soggier than usual of late!! Douglas, I can relate to life getting in the way of model railroading. Work has been keeping me so much busier than usual, lately.

Mike YEP we are definitely soggier than usual. I remember one of the Goon Shows when they exported water to one of the dry countries in brown paper bags. I don't think we would have enough brown paper bags at the moment! 'er upstairs who has to be obeyed wanted a mug of coffee so I duly obliged. Modom has quilt patches laid out on the hobby room floor and our Tom Cat Moggie (Bramble) has decided to play hide and seek among them. My name will be mud if modom sees it. I threw a ping pong ball down the stairs to detract him but no avail yet he was quite happy to chase a rolled up paper ball...cheapskate isn't the word for him. he keeps scattering the laid out quilt patches then running off as though he had just thrown a stone and broke a window. This same Tom cat also enjoys pushing a pair of wagon wheels along a length of siding on the layout he also with his sister (Mitsie) enjoys picking small tools out of my workbox and dropping them over the edge of the workbench-who needs children! Fortunately the four Greatgrandchildren are too young yet to help Granddad to break his models. Part of my layout is fitted for Stud Contact and some of the points I have laid in a centre rail instead, my problem when running stud locos is as the centre rail or studs raise up so the skate dosen't short out when it passes over a running rail I find the KaDee couplings tail pipe catches on the raised portion. Does any other three railer have this problem? Level cenre third rail is no problem but I decided to make life easy for myself didn't I. Jim Brodie

Good Monday Evening to all the Forum folks. Reached the low 90's once again today and then around 3:45 this afternoon, the rains started. There's a hefty t-storm just to the south and west of us. Not sure if it's going to work it's way here. Been a busy day at work but at least I'm making progress, once again. The new guy is working with my Capt. tonight & tomorrow night. I'm sure she'll keep him busy. I did make it to the trains for a little more than 3 hours total, yesterday afternoon/evening. Everything worked fine and I managed to do a bit of switching, too. Hope everyone had a good day.

I got out on Saturday to take pictures of the Union Pacific 1995 Heritage unit. It was on an Oakland bound train leading and it made a nice picture in the bright California sun. I received a new Genesis SD70Ace Heritage unit Friday from Ulrich with the modified speakers and SMT LED lighting. It is really nice but runs like a Genesis. larry

Monday 23rd of July. I have a birthday this week but will try to get over that on Thursday. The UP 9900 is in town today in the yards but it is on the house track and I cannot get a good picture. It is the modified SD59MX which has the scrubber installed on the exhaust. This unit looks like a camel with the large hump above the motor. It will not be popular and if it works, who knows how it will be modeled. Probably Overland will do a one only for $1200 or so. I will post a picture if they move it to a good location.
I am having the house trim painted so no more brass for the next two months or so as this work costs about the same as a late brass 4-8-4 from any of the great importers.
