Staying away from opinions on MTH's business model--
The SD70ACe is a decent, rugged, good pulling and good sounding engine. I have several, and like them.
If you have other DCC equipped models and want to MU this engine with them, you may need to get the decoder reflashed so it will be better able to be speed matched to the rest of your fleet. The paint is generally good and evenly applied.
Now, as far as detail and whatnot, they are kind of generic and have oversized handrails. That is not always a completely bad thing, as bigger, heavier suty parts with less fragile stuff to break off can be an advantage if you tend to be a little hamhanded or operate at a club where you have club members that could tear up an anvil with their bare hands.

Thanks and I wasn't wanting to see if we can bash on mth either .. I'm an ESU guy and l love genesis atlas kato and most of there detail so I might opt out but had to ask.

I, too, am a Loksound convert thanks to Bowser C430s.

I think the horns on Tsunami's tend to be a bit "thin" unless you're talking F units.

I have two MTH SD70ACE's and really like them. I think the horns really sound great as does the prime mover. The handrails are metal as are the stanchions and are a bit thicker than Athearn but not weirdly thick.

I'd buy more MTH SD70's if I needed them.

What other distributer is dumping the SD70ACE comfort cabs in UP?  Also, do you know why they're dumping them?  Is it because MTH is planning another run?  I haven't been in the loop lately.  Busy with my kitchen remodel.

I lost all of my freaking video footage from Cleveland National Train Show in july so I am still mad about that and that has kept me at bay from the Model Railroad world. I have not had the urge to really do more stuff since then. But I would have been interested in the Missouri Pacific SD70ACe if I had not started to make payments on a new OMI one 2 weeks ago. I have to get the urge to Model Railroad and get back to work! The Comfort cab SD70ACe is a nice buy too! NICE!!

I don't really have the urge right now, I just have pre recorded videos to last until November at the rate of one per week. This kitchen is making me angry and taking way too much time and money. About 35% over budget at this point, so I just want it done before I think about building the new layout.  I can't do any more OMI aces.  They look nice, but it takes time effort to get them weighted good, running good, DCC installed and sounding good, lighted good (with Monster LEDs of course) etc.  I'm too lazy for that this year.

Lombard Hobbies bought a ton of them from the same distributor.

No clue on pricing there though since I generally don't pay much attention to such things.

Lombard has the MTH SD70Ace, but none are UP heritage, for $124.99 but they are DCC ready and not sound equipped.

To explain the dumping would probably devolve into a discussion of their business model.

I don't really want any even at the bargain price, and I don't order any to re-sell because for the size of my operation they're a large investment that unless I sell for $10 over cost will sit around collecting dust for 6-12 months because everyone else is dumping them.

As my father used to tell me, there's a seat for every ass.... Personally, If I had the spare coins right now, I'd pick some up. They may not be the best for everyone, but they are certainly a viable option.
