Coming along nicely. Primer looks to have went on very smoothly, the roof line is clean.

Tim, I'm working on my IC unit at the same time as you are. I did manage to get the screens off the main body. Moot point as they are glued to the screen frame. At least if you did decide to strip the main body, you wouldn't have to worry about getting paint trapped behind them. However, I could not get the roof fan off. Oh well... I guess i'm going to have to be a baaaad boy and paint over the IC. But before I do...since you have primed the cab[and I see you did not strip it all the way down],..oh I hate to ask this....but did you remove the numbers from the cab? If you did, any hints. Did you have any problems removing the numbers? If you didn't, don't worry. I won't tell.....Trust me!

It comes right off. But for the first cab that I did I did not remove the numbers on the cab, but the printing on the cab is so thin that after adding the primer you don't even see the numbers.

I primed the body and could barely make out the "Illinois Central". The seperation line between the orange and white does show in spots, but it goes down the body right at the hinge line. I hope it tones down once I get my lettering on with a good flat. I was a baaaad boy!!! JL

?? how close was the Atlas U33C orange to when they were delivered ? can recall those units at $40.00 or even 3 for $99.00/100.00 in the 90s.has Atlas ever run the IC U30Bs ? C636s: are these units back together now ? Hi-Ad Trucks: in looking at the top bolster piece it seems that Alco purposely raised the mounting up higher than on either the GE FB-3s,or EMD Flexi-Coils. this may have made mounting the 5000 Gallon Tank easier on the C636, and the C630 if any owners of the C630 had wanted the 5000 gallon tank. looks that Reading and C&O didn't want the 5000 gallon tank on their Hi-Ad C630s. Hey guys. The units are decaled and I got decals on order to finish the units up. I did get an e-mail from Bowser that the fuel tank and trucks should be on the way after the first of the year so I finish up these engines.

Well I got my parts from Bowser yesterday and I started working on the engines again. Here is a side by side shot of one with the new parts and one with the old parts. Untitled by Timothy N. Alund, on Flickr My next step is detailing the trucks.

Waiting on the parts now for modification.

That certainly is an improvement, Bowser really stepped up to the plate - with your additional work those are great looking units!

Did some work on the enginer side of the sideframes. Added the speed recorder and the ratchet hand brake rod that connects the chain to the brake cylinder. Trucks by Timothy N. Alund, on Flickr

Tim, Fantastic job. I had completely forgotten about the details on the side frames. I'll go back and at least put speed recorders on all my hi-ads. What book are you using for your reference material? Looks familiar.

The units are back together. I had to make canvas sunshades. So I took some making tape and placed it over the metal sunshade that came with the engine and just cut the tape to size. I paint it olive drab and make the brackets for the shade. IMG_1293[1] by Timothy N. Alund, on Flickr IMG_1294[1] by Timothy N. Alund, on Flickr

I have three of these and a Bluford shops caboose. Been breaking them in. Great looking and sounding locos. The Bowser orange is pretty close to my Accupainted OMI c-636. Bowser's color is probably the best I've seen from a factory painted locomotive. All the other models I had the orange never came close. Now all I need is a SD40A.

I was on the fence of posting this becaues the front sarget coupler has been backordered, so I have this huge stupid coupler in the front, and the MU hoses aren't in the right place because you have to remove the plow to install the coupler. But I did want to share it to the forum. So here is one of the C-636 all done, leading eastbound CC-6 outside of East Debuque,IL. IMG_1339[1] by Timothy N. Alund, on Flickr For the other unit I'm still working on the numberboard decals.
