My favourite is definitely my e-l sdp45. I never thought I'd see it in plastic, let alone the e-l version. Can't wait for the bicentennial due late March. Gary

Easily the Rapido CN GMD-1. Amazing little loco. Everyone should have one.

Well, my favorite locomotive this year was actually my GN patched SD39 that I finally finished, but that doesn't really count since it was a project that I started before. My second favorite would be my BNSF smurf which doesn't count for the same reason.
For my favorite locomotive bought this year that didn't get immediately put on my projects pile, I'm torn between the Rivarossi Granite Rock 10 0-6-0 that I still need to do excursion cars to go with, or the Kato Indiana Railroad SD90MACs that I still need to sort out the ditch lights and detail parts for.
Thinking about it, I'm not sure if the Rivarossi came out in 2014, and I'm sure the Katos didn't.
For 2015, I'm most looking forward to the new Athearn SD40, mostly for projects although I think I'll get one of the BNSFs to run straight.

I don't care how incorrect the detail is, for the price I paid for both of these and the Loksound was worth it. Intermountain SD40-2 (Ferromex pair)

My wife came home a few days ago and said she saw a Mexican engine "Ferromex"- she rarely mentions trains, but that stood out from the usual BNSF & UP.

Definitely the Bachmann NS New York Central Heritage SD70ACE. DEFINITELY. Al Your choice of a favorite model in 2014 you listed makes sense since it was a two for one ending! Larry Ha! Yeah twice the engine for one expensive price. I like the back half better for the record.

...very easy answer, my Rapido GMD-1 in CN wet noodle with red cab scheme. These models are absolutely astounding, taking into consideration the quality of workmanship and details, along with the amazing sound system, this model is quite possible the best HO scale model I've ever owned. Although I don't model Canadian stuff these ran right past my workplace for years and were an everyday sight throughout pats of Victoria BC, where I now live, so I had to have one... ...it will be interesting to see what else Jason and the boys at Rapido come up with down the road, with quality like this I'll be interested in almost anything they do...
cheers,
Lorne Miller

I got a painted and un-lettered BLI H10 so I can make it into a DT&I. I don't really model steam, but not too often have steam locos been done that the DT&I actually had. My 1st purchase of a sound model, and it's OK after some turning down of the sound.
I also got a PC C-430, and that is a really nice model. (no sound) but I am a non-sound guy anyways.

I only bought two locomotives last year: a Genesis GP38-2 and an Atlas B30-7. I like the Genesis model, but getting that B30-7 was the end of a long hunt, and I just barely squeaked it in at the end of the year.

Since I had to move twice in the last year, had to disassemble a lot of benchwork, I haven't made any purchases.
Once I get the new plan solidified, I'll start working on a new roster.
I'm really looking forward to buying several flared SD70's from Athearn as I've always had a soft-spot for those locomotives.

I got a pair of C430s and a pair of U25Cs. Both are really great, but the C430s would have to edge out the U boats only because of the handrail issue. And for the record about that, none of the 65 members of my club noticed the handrails until I pointed them out.\, so that "problem" seems overrated.

Okay, the C430 again. I don't even mind the sound.

As I noted in the other thread, my favorite loco purchased in 2014 was Athearn Genesis BN GP50 #3110... Second would be Athearn Genesis B&O Chessie GP40-2 #4141 (Looking at my list today I realized I haven't purchased a brand new Atlas unit in over 3 years - only a couple second hand ones)

Now that you mention it, I'm really fond of MY newish BNSF GP50--great sound, runs nicely, good detail.
Now, I'm a waitin' for something like a patched whiteface GP40-2.
Oh, I thought I'd also mention the Atlas Alco S-2. I got a GN one (with the wrong sideframes). It is a SWEET switcher. GREAT sound. Nice weight (as opposed to the Bowser S-12).
And, yes, I bow down to the Gods for the SDP's. Back in the last century, when I started building mine, I NEVER NEVER thought there'd be a plastic one. And one that was better than brass and far far better than my withered attempt.

My favorite purchase of 2014 was the Genesis GP38-2 in L&N despite some minor lettering errors. My favorite "re-purchase" was P2K RS27 in PC; I should not have sold it in the first place.

I'm surprised nobody (at least yet) has mentioned Genesis Southern or NS GP50s, GP39X/49, or the Santa Fe GP7u... All were very nice.

2014 was awesome, Athearn Chessie GP40-2, BLI H10, Riv U25C, B&LE SD9, Bowser C636 but the top of the heap was a tie between EL SDP45 and the Bowser C430. Simply amazing to see them in beautifully executed plastic. One of the best years for locos in memory.
The list of "never-been-done in plastic" diesels is dwindling. Remarkable.

Probably my Penn Central C636's, but I gotta give an honorable mention to the Penn Central RS27 I found at the Kirtland show last year NIB for $50.00.
