Anyone have any experiences or opinions about the Atlas C30-7s? They are older tooling, but there aren't many options for C30-7s. BLI has made some but they are few and far between and cost double or more than the Atlas units. Anyone know if the Atlas versions are accurate and how they run? How do they compare to the BLI ones?
Thanks
Kevin

I have five of them and all run well. The cab is not detailed since it is filled in with a weight. The handrails are a bit heavy compared to models from the last several years. I have never seen the BLI C30-7s, so I can't offer any specifics there.

Kevin: I have 4 of the BN units from both runs. They are decent runners. The detail is not up to current Atlas standards though. I spent some money on Smoke Valley Stanchions and handrails, and a number of BN specific detail parts, anticlimbers, snow plow, horn, bell, etc- etc. They came out looking pretty good. If you can pick one up at a show or on the Bay cheap, and if you spend some money detailing it, you will end up with a nice unit. Much nicer than the Rail Power shell on a BB Athearn.
I was not that impressed with the BLI model, particularly the drive mechanism. Shell Detail and finish was ok.

I have two of them...like the others said...they are nice runners...Their dimensions are great overall...but they lack details...however...they can be spruced up.
I put their front weights in my milling machine and cut out the weight area for them to have at least an open area where the cab doesn't look so silly with that weight there.

They run good, and are good pullers. Paint is good, details are a little better than current Trainman level, not as good as Silver series. The user added grab irons are something of a pain. The BLI C30's are much better detailed, with even better paint, but don't run as smoothly as the Atlas units.

The Atlas C30-7's are the most common variant of the C30-7. I believe they are Phase I's and the BLI is a Phase II. There are definite differences between the Phase I and Phase II, mainly from a grill perspective. So depending on which road you want, you'll want one or the other. Some roads had both phases. I have 6 of them and I love them. They are real luggers. I run them as dedicated sets because that's what the prototype often did. I usually have a U30c in the mix too. It's clear that the U30's look much nicer than the older C30-7's but given that they are the only game in town I live with it.
