The Kadee cars are great and 40 footers are my favorite. These were lettered with custom decals.

Real nice, pardner!
I've got some "home road" rolling stock myself. It sure is fun. Especially on those rare occasions when someone thinks it's "real". Well, thanks, I say to them--quite the compliment!!!

Very nice work on the cars. The stripes on the 5008 must have required a non-trivial amount of patience.
Ed, the MSC was a real railroad... the cars are from the prototype series 5000 to 5099 which numbered 97 cars in the January 1959 Official Railway Equipment Register. The group was the largest single set of cars on their 246 car roster at the time. Most of the rest of their cars were "Wood Racks" according to the ORER.

Very nice car, the Mississippi Central is a railroad you don't often see modeled. Wasn't the Mississippi Central affiliated with the Illinois Central? and ultimately folded into the Illinois Central Gulf, with the GM&O in 1972. Nice job on the car. Bill

I read that custom decal comment in a different manner than intended. Ed

Did you replace the stock scale head KD coupler with the traditional larger head coupler? I only own one Kadee car but thought they all came with scale head couple4rs, which some like and some don't.
Nice looking box car - I need to add a few Kadee box cars to my fleet as I have slowly been back dating toward the 70's.

When Kadee originally released their boxcars they cae with the larger head coupler. Later all of their cars came with the scale head couplers.

Thank you all! The Kadees are fast becoming a favorite with one drawback; with big hands like mine the fine details can be a little pesky. The couplers will be replaced but those cars came with the old #5's. I am painting a B&M and IC 40' this week. I have some great old Champ sets decals on hand. The Mississippi decals came from wabashcustomdecals.com/

Tom, that explains the couplers then. I don't have a strong opinion either way; of course the scale head looks better but the standard probably have a little more reliability factor.

Nice work there Brotherlove! Kadee makes some very nice cars indeed. Does anyone know when (or if) we’ll see a new design from them and not just another paint scheme? Mark

Nice work there Brotherlove! Kadee makes some very nice cars indeed. Does anyone know when (or if) we’ll see a new design from them and not just another paint scheme? Mark Something is coming. I sent an email to Kadee about a month and a half back and received a really nice reply that an all-new car was forthcoming but not quite ready for prime time. No idea what car type, but I don't think it was a variation of an existing car. Based on their track record, it's probably a transition-era car that survived well into the second generation era. I know a lot of folks on here model 1970 onwards and want something for that time frame but my '46-'57 era still has some major essential gaps and I'll gladly take a new Kadee offering.

I am interested in the 70's and 80' so Kadee makes cars that are useful to me too. I finally picked up the Kadee D&RGW 2-bay covered hopper which is probably the best choice for the Rio Grande prototype PS-2 hopper. It's actually the first Kadee freight car I ever bought; not sure why it has taken so long. Probably because for a long time I've focused on 80's freight cars and now am getting pulled back into the 70's and 60's more and more.

I model the 60-65 era so the Kadees are right down my alley. Many complain about prices but if you detail a car to the Kadee level you will spend that much in parts easy. I have shopped around and got some good deals. The undecs are a little hard to locate.

One of our local members has every Kadee car built save for about a half dozen that were custom orders.
They are exquisite.

I just spotted an old English /Bowser MC car on #bay. How do they compare with the Kadee's? JL

I have shopped around and got some good deals. The undecs are a little hard to locate. The Kadee's RTR cars were some of the most expensive when they first came out, but others have caught up to or surpassed them - especially the box cars. The 2-bay hoppers are closer to the Tangent and premium ER cars but you can find them for decent prices. I saw a table full for $25 ea all new 2-bay covered hoppers. I'd like to add a few of the box cars as I want to run some late 60's or 70's freight trains.
