So is anyone here attending Supertrain this weekend and willing to put together a report? All I heard so far was that Bowser was present with a number of GMD SD40-2 samples (which look excellent from the photos I saw), and that they announced that they'll be doing the CP Red Barns (SD40-2F)...

Once he has done the red barns, maybe we can cajole Lee English into doing a CN SD-50F or SD-60F. They are my favorite Canadian units. That would be nice. Bill

A lot of stuff. All of which interests me. GMD SD40-2 MLW M636 MLW M630 Alco C-415 GMD SD40-2F As far as the other cowls I would buy both a SD60F and a 8-40CM if offered.

A proper CN cowl unit would be most welcome. I half expected someone to announce an SD60F at this show, as I just acquired the Kaslo kit for it. Maybe I have to actually start building it for the announcement to come... But I would still buy a couple, or any CN Draper for that matter, if someone would just produce them.

I have never heard of super train either, other than a TV series by that name made in the 1970's that canceled during the first season. After clicking on the link, I see it is a Canadian event. Ah!

Wow. One of my favorites. I'll have to get one when they come out.

Great news! I'm in for a couple in the original scheme. Think that and split-flag were the only paint variants on the Red Barns -- don't think any got hit with the Golden Rodent. Suppose they could do BCRail or CN fantasy schemes...

Would rather they spent the resources on stretching that new GMD frame a bit for the CN drapers down the road, but if they think foobie red barns might sell - I suppose I won't begrudge them making a few extra $$ off of their investment

If it took a different length chassis like the SD50F or SD60F, it would be a no-go.

They created a whole new GMD chassis for the SD40-2. While stretching it for the SD50/60 is possible and I would love for that to happen sooner rather later (or not at all), Bowser is much more likely to try to recoup their current investment and make some profit on the current platform first, before even thinking about committing to another new chassis. But it's nice to dream. Realistically, Athearn is much more likely to do CN GMD cowls as they already have the needed SD60 chassis AND the wide cab in the Genesis line.

Are any "Red Barns" still active? I thought they were supposed to be fodder for the SD30 ECO rebuilds.

I see the C415 mentioned. Was there any indication of a date, paint schemes and price?

Are any "Red Barns" still active? I thought they were supposed to be fodder for the SD30 ECO rebuilds. Up to now all the CP SD30C ECO rebuilds have been from standard SD40-2 units. In Bytown Railway Society's magazine 'Branchline', the April issue Motive Power column shows 30 SD40-2s destined for rebuilding at Bombardier in Mexico. Half of the SD40-2F units are listed as 'Stored Unserviceable' while the other half appear to still be on the road. David

Half of the SD40-2F units are listed as 'Stored Unserviceable' while the other half appear to still be on the road. David The latest count shows CP retired 10 of them back in late 2012, which have been sitting rusting away in Winnipeg since (2 reportedly scrapped in Moose Jaw). The other 13 are listed as stored unserviceable, with only two units (9011 and 9023) listed as active. There is speculation that even if the SD40-2F's were traded in to become ECOs, they wouldn't be used and substitute cores - read as some other regular SD40-2's - would be rebuilt in their place, since the SD30C retains a lot of hood and carbody components of a standard SD40-2.

Thanks...it came out nice, but there were alot of issues with the Kaslo shell that needed to be worked out. I built that for a friend. Not my Aztek...was in the parking lot of an old apartment I lived out (I'm still mystified who at Pontiac thought the Aztek was a good idea, but that's beyond the scope of this forum). The shot was taken on the roof of my old 1993 Thunderbird....man I miss that car. Here's a pre-paint photo since we're talking about this beast... I think I posted photos of it back in the day on the Atlas forum when I was cranking out a model every few days. Enjoy! Kelley. www.dufordmodelworks.com
