Old news man, where have you been. Ha. The NS is a very nice model but the SP units are the one I really like and will get.

Look nice but how they perform? LEDS? Like they're never going to make them again? Give me a break. I'm growing quite tired of stuff selling out like this. Sorry I'll wait for Jame's review.

And I should buy these because.......... Ed The same reasons anyone buys any train. I saw these in Cleveland and they looked nice. But, I don't like the fact that before one knows anything about them other than appearance, they are sold out. A crazy new world order. Word is the motor is the same weak thing Intermountain and Bowser use for example.

I've always thought the ATSF GP60's were some of the handsomest late old EMD styled diesels. If I could afford to impulse buy other roads just for fun, I would have liked a set of them.

Even though Santa Fe isn't my main interest, I bought 8 of Athearn original run GP60M, with some cabless units. So will be happy with those -- didn't indulge in any of the subsequent Athearn upgraded units. I believe Santa Fe originally wanted the GP60Ms to be full-cowl units, but the concept added up to too much weight for four axles. I think they look cooler the way they turned out. It will be interesting to see reviews of the Fox offering.

They were never out of the box running on a layout since I model the later steam era, but watched these units when they were new and pulling hot Z trailer trains. Five of these would really roll a train. I would be interested in the review of the Fox models to find out how they run. Larry

Well I had plans to get the first run but I was really interested in getting a Southern Pacific unit because it would be perfect my railroad and not for a display. He did not set aside one of the NS or ATSF units for me because of the decision. And for the record I am paying for my SP GP60 too. I just do not want to pay for a NS engine when I really want a SP one that I can patch to UP and weather nicely when I am done with the review. I wish he released the SP ones first but he is personally a Norfolk southern fan/modeler so he wanted to naturally do his railroad first. I am sure I will be paying the same exact price as all others too but that is perfect because if I say that it is good or bad, you will know that I mean it plus I will not even feel like I have to be "extra nice" or 'water down" the review for getting a sample for free. Here is the email inquiry I got from him after asking where my GP60 engine was:
Hi Al,
I had you marked for an SP unit, but if you want an NS, that's cool too. Standard DC or Sound? Did you want to use a credit card or should I send a Paypal invoice?
Thanks,
Matt

Mine arrived from MBK today, and I must say I am very pleased with them. However, I have question. Why do the fans on the Santa Fe A units have the fan grates painted Black, but on the B units Silver? A boo-boo, or is this correct?

On the FVM N-scale GP60s both the GP60M and GP60B fan grills are black. Not sure why the HO versions are different or if black was missed on the HO B units. I thought the black was an effort at weathering... Did you get sound units? Bill McBride

Why do the fans on the Santa Fe A units have the fan grates painted Black, but on the B units Silver? A boo-boo, or is this correct? This was definitely a real prototype variation, but I'm not sure exactly how/when it was applied or if it was specific to a particular group of units. I remember Dave Hussey modeling the black fan grills on (I think) 1 of the 2 GP60Ms that he wrote about in MRG years ago. They were built from Athearn GP50s before the RPP models were released, so he didn't do the GP60Bs. Dave

Dave As-built, many GP60s (and other units of that vintage) had gloss black Q-fan housings since that's how they came from the vendor. EMD painted the housings on some (except the grill) body color, such as Santa Fe's. Others had entirely black housings, like on SP/SSWs GP60s.

The trucks and fuel tanks on these models look like Bachmann tooled them.

Looks like MB Kleins got another shipment of Santa Fe's in. They are showing stock in most road numbers.

The trucks and fuel tanks on these models look like Bachmann tooled them. Like the intermountain ES44AC's "steerable" truck?

I'm glad I checked this thread too, so I can possibly buy 1 if not 2 of these diesels. Case in point: I have 2 brass SF GP60M's from Overland without HEADLIGHTS OR DITCH LIGHTS THAT WORK. Overland made them that way. Of course, they will be trailing units behind the new Fox Valley ones.

The trucks and fuel tanks on these models look like Bachmann tooled them. While I have not seen the models if its anything like the truck on the Intermountain ES44AC "Steerable" I would concur. While you would tool such a nice body and then those trucks is beyond me. Athearn's tooling for theirs and OMI's are much nicer.
