In later years it became known as TM of I or Train Minature LTD of Illinois. The company was located on 168th Street in South Holland, Illinois about a half block from the Missouri Pacific/Louisville & Nashville(ex-Chicago & Eastern Illinois) and Grand Trunk Western diamonds and interchange. TM's building about backed up to the GTW main and was located behind a former farm house on 168th Street. I lived in South Holland from 1969 to 1998 and can't remember the actual name of the manufacturing company that operated as TM of I. The sign by the driveway to the small cement block building never said Train Miniature, but some plastic company. Which I guess proves that with some injection molding machines, paint facilities, etc. you can pump out model railroad equipment.

Actually, with respect, it was "Train Miniature". Neither word was plural. That's correct, thanks. I should have pulled out one of my unbuilt kits to check the box. The mind is the first thing to go, or so they say. Jeff

I found the original post informative - I got the new products e-mail announcement from Athearn, listing a "Roundhouse F-7." I scratched my head for a couple of minutes before assuming this was a re-branding. This post confirms it. Thanks for the information.

?? didn't Dennis Storzek have something to do with Train Minature of Illinois ? then he did the Flexable Resin Soo Line Boxcars and Wood Caboose kits. then started Accurate Finishing which morphed into Accu-Rail ? of course this really doesn't have anything to do with this latest Smoke and Mirrors act from Athearn/Horizon. well they wont Confuse me. To summarize: Same stuff, different boxes, slightly higher prices. Did I leave anything out? Will the grain-door boxcars reappear?

So if you don't pre-order you don't get any? I've never pre-ordered and managed to get what I need one - I'm guessing thats the case here too - and if not - it's not like I don't have enough trains.

Well that is what Athearn says. They only make to pre order quantities. Now you may be able to find a dealer who orders Athearn items without in hand pre orders. But that is not as easy as it sounds. Hot items sell out in minutes.

MBK is particularly bad these days about getting stuff in and bam, being sold out super fast. Problem with them is you can't even pre-order with them.

The SD70ACE in Cat yellow I don't think ever showed on their website in stock. That item in non sound was scarce.

Athearn itself has said this so the source is them. Obviously some products either they make extra or they are returns. Who knows. The SD70m in Cat Yellow isn't in stock. Never was.

Athearn RTR = Older tooling than Bachmann without LEDs.

Athearn RTR = Older tooling than Bachmann without LEDs. Age is not necessarily an indicator of quality.

The importers just can't afford to keep inventory on hand any more. This is like the Walther fallen flag series. Nobody want to hold onto the inventory.
