That's a hefty price tag for what amounts to a few cheap parts, but I guess they have to make some money somehow.

That's a hefty price tag for what amounts to a few cheap parts, but I guess they have to make some money somehow. It is sound decoder with added keep alive function. List price is in line with other sound decoders so I don't know how it is "hefty". The keep alive function on the mother board is extra which one may not want, but it worth it for many.

It's two separate boards. $150 for something that just be hard wired in for $70 and it's the same thing. I'm going to keep hardwiring the decoders in.

Not impressed at all! Bad deal in fact!! I can buy a Tsunami board with sound for $85 plus their new current keeper for $23. TCS needs to revamp this and offer a SOUND BOARD all in one unit like the Tsunami and sell it for the expensive price of $99. Then I can add a TCS Keep Alive to it for an additional $23. That makes way more sense!! Then we can buy sound for $99 and if I decide to add a Keep Alive it will be an easy install JUST LIKE I DO WITH THE TCS A6X DECODERS AND A KA2 KEEP ALIVE CAPACITOR. Final cost $122-125. Still it is $25 less than their new wack "donkey" mother boards!! They are trying to copy Loksound. I would be more interested in them selling TCS A6X DECODERS for $40-45 and add the 21 pin adapter to all of the A6X and A4X de decoders. Then they can sell us add on sound decoders for an additional $40-45. That will allow people to start out with non sound and later upgrade their engines with sound without removing their non sound decoders!
I am very disappointed in that new motherboard stuff.

Hard wiring is not the same Keep alive does not come in a $99 tsunami These are list prices not the discounts quoted You are all mixing apples with stray cats.

So in looking at the 2 boards for Athearn is that cap basically the same as say the cap that comes with the AT style Tsunami? In other words, does the board provide the same "run time" as say the TCS Cuurent Keeper or Soundtraxx Keep Alive?? Inquiring minds want to know. Bob

A few things here, spending 80 dollars or any amount of money really on a soundtraxx is pointless, they are marginally better in sound than only MRC. Assuming you make that mistake and spend another 23 dollars adding a keep alive, well there you are already at 103 dollars. The TCS WOW boards can be had on ebay for 40, and the new 121 decoder for 80 so you spend a total of 120 dollars. Would I spend 17 dollars more for actually correct sound and horns that dont sound like someone hitting autotune with a single tone and sounding nothing like the actual horn its supposed to be? YES I'll DO THAT. Only fools pay list price.....

Only fools pay list price..... Before we blow this off as being too expensive, lets wait to see what the street price is. I see that most Soundtraxx sound decoders can be had for $90, but MSRP is $119. -Dave

I can't believe TCS left off the Nathan P5 old casting horn.
