I got a couple of things done this week, been a little slow going what with getting ready for the bowling season this last week. A Couple of views of the Converted ex-Wabash Hopper cars turned into a pseudo covered hopper by the Anderson's. Anderson's added an extension and canvas cover to the ex-coal hoppers and used them to haul grain from the elevator in Maumee, OH to the docks in Toledo, OH. This is the 5th car I have done of the 10 I purchased years ago. It is a Tichy Kit with all the airline piping and details attached, painted with Model Masters Aluminum paint with a few drops of Green, the Extention is painted Floquil Reading Green and lettered with kit supplied decals. Athearn Genesis 60' Hi-Cube Berwick Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and White, along with Floquil Platinum Mist for the Roof. Car lettered with Oddballs Decals, nice that the buzzsaw was printed as an oval shaped so when applied over the rib it became a circle. The prototype car was assigned to the Ford Parts Warehouse in Melvindale, MI and sent to assembly plants with parts. Another picture of my C-430's in the background with the wharf area at the Strongsville, OH club layout in the foreground with a Freighter and Car Float in the docks. Thanks for looking! Rick J

Rick, nice looking MoPac box car!
Conrail kid, I like the freelance tank car. When I was working a geologist up in central NY, my boss was constantly talking about how the Marcellus Shale was going to be the next big thing in Pennsylvania. My work plugging oil wells wrapped up and I switch professions but soon after, the oil boom hit in full force and the Marcellus Shale became part of that with many drillers and frackers busy during the past 6 or 7 years. Your tank car looks pretty cool!
Cheers

It's been a busy week! Here's an Atlas GP40 that I did a little work, I rebuilt the fuel tank and added a sill made from Evergreen stock - I'm still considering replacing the cab with a Cannon & Co.one. By 1971 this engine was considered a "B" unit on the Rio Grande with all crew amenities and radio removed, trailing unit status only. A simple upgrade on an Atlas Evans 52'double plug door car. I've added some Plano walkways and cut bars. The paint is stock and since the car is molded in red plastic with a thin coat of red paint it looked a bit waxy so I gloss coated it, then dullcoat which seems to help the red look better. It's weathered with two shades of brown colored pencil and a bit chalk to represent it's mid - '70s appearance. I love Plano parts! Here's an Atlas car thqat I've added new end platforms and walkways to, along with some Genesis 100 ton trucks. Can't wait to weather it!

I use an external host for my pics - Photobucket. It's free, you upload your shots there, copy the link and paste them here.

I entered the hobby in 2009, just when kit lines such as Athearn Blue Box were fading away for good. So I got very comfortable with ready to roll. However today I built my first kit, an LBF box car. I must say it was kind of fun! -James

Here's a break from my normal. Even with today's railroads, there is still a need for a caboose, uhhhh... I mean "shoving platform." NYC 22130 is used on the Murfreesboro, TN local due to extensive backup moves. Anyway, here she is in all her glory: Prototype Model Enjoy, -Dave

I'm late to the party, having spent the limited time here ogling NTS pics Been getting ready for an upcoming series of three weeks in a row with evening ops sessions trying to pin down a good night or two for most. If you're in the Central Illinois area and would like to get involved in my very low pressure/high fun content operations, drop me a PM. Why was I so busy? Putting down 10 turnouts over the last week to add needed capacity . I finished the track through to ballast at the added Rio Grande siding and spur at the yard in Silverton. While only a 1/4" closer to the edge than before the extension was added, I felt the need to build a guard. While out of scale in order to be strong, I soldered up a guard from 5/32" brass rod. Once painted, it's very unobtrusive. The Camp 10/Black Cat Junction area received a long double siding, which will help the dispatcher out quite a bit. Camp 10 now has a spur to hold MTs such as the pole train shown here. At Crater Lake Junction, another siding was installed to hold cars for the branches it anchors. And a steep spur now drops down to the future location of the Outlaw Mine.

Mark, the GP40 looks nice and weathered just right. I have about 6 of those small herald GP40's (4 unnumbered) but they the nose lights are the hard part - I'm afraid they'd come out looking like half the ones I've seen photo's of - which is to say not so good. Yours looks very well done. IIRC, D&RGW relegated 3051-3075 to B unit status around 1972 along with all the GP35's and the last 8 numbers of the GP30's. I've read that the engineers liked the GP30's so maybe thats why they left 3001-2019 in A unit status. They did return many of the GP40's to A unit status in the 1980's from what I read - not sure of the dates however.
The Ogden box car looks very nice - I have one of those too, but stock condition.
Cheers, Jim
