The Details West rock plow is not bad, but its a little chunky. Atlas offered their plow seperately for a time. Nice, but it lacked the bolt detail and mounting flange the DW part does. There is a guy that offers them 3D printed, in a few variations, as well as the proper LIRR notched style. "Chunky", that's exactly why I'm not a big fan of the DW rock plow. If I gotta use them I'll use them but like many I'd prefer something better.

I had hopes that Scale Trains was going to break the late delivery cycle in the industry. Based on the web site it looks like it's now 4 months late for the SD40-2. Their push to get the UP turbines out on time was encouraging so it is possible. I do understand the "get it right" issues, but ST not withstanding, this seems to be an accepted practice in this industry. If someone could break that cycle it would give them a competitive advantage. I remember waiting 2 years for the Spectrum Doodlebugs and when they arrived they still had issues.

I don't care if they take an extra year. Get it right. The world is littered with "almost" or "not quite" SD40-2s.

Miyamoto, the genius who brought us Mario and Zelda, has this to say about delayed launches for video games: IMO, The quote doesn't lose any relevance in the context of toy trains. Sure it's a pain as I'm waiting for 4 engine runs that all are currently looking to arrive in back-to-back-to-back, but I think that as long as manufacturers are doing the pre-order thing, we're stuck with it like this.
