With some of the Bowser (C630, C636) and Atlas engines being effected by a batch of weak motors several years ago, I am search for replacement motor for these units that could use a more powerful motor.
I found several oversea sellers selling a variety of motors, some of them look exactly like the Kato motors and old Atlas motors, and there is even one that look like the Athearn Genesis motor. I was wondering if anyone has had experience using these Ebay replacement motors? Are they just as good quality wise as the ones we get from the original locomotives? It seems like the prices are really good, so I am wondering if it is too good to be true. Thanks

I was looking at the Walthers site and they have what appears to be the same can motor used in some Proto 2000 models, like the GP38-2. It looks just like the ones Micro-Mark sells. Has the 2mm shaft. I've used the ones from Micro-Mark and they run really well. There used to be a Mashima brand and when that disappeared these Micro-Mark motors appeared which was the same size, dimensions, shaft as the Mashima. Flywheels seem to have gotten overly expensive now so include that into your pricing and decisions.

I did purchase a few, I had no problems with them I believe they are the same ones that are in the Kato locos.

Does Bowser offer replacement motors for the Mabuchi clone motors they installed in early runs of the C630 and C636? I have several of both and would also like to remotor them.

The Micro-Mark motors are 3-pole according to the descriptions. I prefer to buy Kato motors direct from Kato USA. There are at least three different HO motors. Kato 31-500 motor ($23.00) Kato 956030 motor w/flywheels ($35.00) Kato 956010 motor w/flywheels ($35.00) The pictures aren't to scale, I think all the motors are the same size but the motor mounts are different for the last two. The motor mounts for the 956030 are separate items (2 x 956035). I have been using A-Line motor cradles and silicone caulk to mount these motors.
