Is there a source for a roster of the GATC 4500 and 4700 covered hoppers? Were there not that many or few road names the possible reason a model hasn't been produced for them?

Hopefully we see a model of the GATC 4500-4700 cf Grain cars. With all of the new participants in the market, maybe a Scale Trains or Tangent does them, how many Pullman cars can you do. Both have been doing GATC cars lately. I would buy a bunch. Only issue is GATX exited the freight car market early, and all of them are essentially gone now. Bill

I'm in, too. Right after the NON-PULLMAN 5250.

Overland Models produced the 4500 and it can be found from time to time on ebay...two of the undecorated versions were sold on the site three weeks ago. Martin: I was aware that Overland did produce a model of the GATC 4500, accurate for the CBQ. But I want 5 or 6. Not really practical to do in Brass. My brass cars tend to be Cabooses or rare freight stuff, North American PD cars, Cryogenic cars etc. Thanks for the info. Bill

I built a stand in 4500 car for CBQ years ago out of a Walthers 4427 hopper. They are similar in height and length, just had to shave off all old side posts, add a top strip of styrene along roofline and make new side posts from strip styrene.
It looks ok running in a train using the three foot rule...that being said, it would be nice to see a tangent or exactrail version.

UP 22900-23399 (500) 6=9/67 Total of 1515 cars Lets not forget that those 504 NYC 4700's went on to become Penn Central and later Conrail cars. Two more popular road names. Especially the Penn Central right now. I also want the EL cars. Pure EL for for my 1974-75 era plus I'll take duplicates to patch for my late 1970's D&H and give me some D&H repaints. At least one of the D&H cars (#3325) received the bright red repaint. I love all the Pullman Standard covered hopper models we've been blessed with but my fleet could really use some diversity. I'll be surprised if five years from now we don't have one of these. Fingers crossed!

I'd be in for EL and NYC/PC cars in case anybody's listening... I’ll add a +1 to this comment and hope either Tangent or Exactrail is listening and consider these cars for future production. These threads always beg the question of “why so many repetitive products?” when clearly there are greenfields to explore in the industry. Thanks, Mark

Wouldn't hurt to ask ScaleTrains. When I was talking with them at the Chantilly WGH show, I was asked if there were any freight cars I would like ot see made. I made my suggestion. No guarantee's but it can't hurt to suggest and it seemed they are interesterested in future possible offerings.

There could be an issue of finding the construction diagrams for these cars and then finding as-built images. I've Googled searched these various series of GATC cars and didn't have a lot of luck with - as built - images. I would imagine there are those in their image collections that have them. I guess it's not like Pullman-Standard where Jim Kinkaid was able to research the diagrams and the as-built paint schemes for the various cars and these images were posted for all to view. Would like that for certain ACF cars - like the ACF 4460 covered hopper also. I'm not familiar if there is a contact for GATC who would have access to this type of information.
