www.valuetrainsusa.com/Some time ago, like in 2017, this outfit was posted in a thread that had to do with manufacturers, I believe. Well, according to their website, they will be at Trainfest with new product to debut. Will be interesting to see what level of detail they are bringing to the table, along with price. Since I'm somewhat picky about what I buy, molded on detail is a turnoff - hello Walthers. Will be searching them out when I get there. Greg

Let's hope their product lives up to the hype of their box. We all remember what happened last time...

Looking at that box, it's clear it's planned for a tank car, what with that extra section of window up top. Maybe a 1970 tank car? Ed

What a box! Should be an interesting show with possibly 3 new freight cars in HO plus a new diesel perhaps by Athearn. Now, if somebody could make assembled cell towers that you see in modern America, that would be cool.

Their Facebook page makes them look pretty excited about what's to come www.facebook.com/pg/Value-Trains-USA-650603885277910/posts/ . They claim to have "state of the art" painting, and say they will have literature available at Trainfest showing products (plural), plus actual assembled models assembled and packaged for the show. Their info states the rolling stock will not only have Kadee couplers, but also Kadee trucks. That's about it. I don't see any mention on their FB page or website about prototype detail fidelity, research, or other appeals to experienced modelers with real enthusiasm for freight car modeling. The target customer strikes me as somebody who wants to pay less than high end manufacturer pricing (e.g. ExactRail, Tangent, Moloco), and is willing to accept whatever compromises are necessary to get something made in the USA. Given the look and feel of their public presence, including the packaging, I'd expect something along the lines of Walthers Mainline or Atlas Trainman - basic RTR equipment. I'll support them if they make something I like. Hopefully their first car is at least a needed prototype to fill a gap.

I hope their markings are in sharper focus than their lead photograph in the facebook link.
By their photos and home location it appears another Western oriented train maker. UP seems pretty dominant in their pix.

It's Schrodinger's train box. It both contains and does not contain exactly what you want, until you open it. They have packaging!

They seem to be keeping it kinda low key for any kind of announcement. No major magazine ads (possibly money related). No forum presence any where. Just their Facebook page. Just in case it's a flop, they can go back into hiding. But that's just my guess. It'll either be something we can use or....what do we need another one of those for.

That is the feeling I get from what I'm seeing so far. Every model I buy doesn't necessarily have to be high detail with a bazillion parts, but I do want models that faithfully replicate real freight cars and lettering/paint to match. Hopefully they will offer models never done before.

All parts will be made in US, I guess that’s why they chose kadee as one of the suppliers. If it’s going to be on par with exactrail, moloco or tangent than we could be looking at $100 or more per car.

I'm thinking with a name like "Value Trains" these won't be $100 cars. Jason has already discussed how he believes Kadee can produce their detailed RTR freight cars for their under $50 price, many under $40. So we have a frame of reference there. Only thing that makes sense is a limited number of parts.

Sounds like a basic car, made in America, with trucks and couplers a known quantity. The trucks and couplers will be about $8/car, we'll see how much they think their own stuff is worth on top of that.

I'm thinking with a name like "Value Trains".... ...that they will be pretty low end. Ed "Low end" is acceptable, <<if>> the dimensions are correct. If I need the car and it is correct in the critical dimensions, and while carving ladders and grabs off the latest in 1970's tooling produced in 2018 kinda sux, I'll do it. See Walthers recent releases such as the Plate B 50' ACF OB box and the 50' reefer. What is unacceptable is biffed up dimensions that make the car unusable and "uncorrectable," whether it has "separately applied parts" or not. I have low expectations for Value Trains. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised, while fully expecting nothing of use.

True, low end can be useful. Or even fun.
I've got an Accurail gon tucked away. It's got cast on grabs. But since it's a gon, there aren't very many. And I bought a black one. So, after some surgery, I can spray over my improvements and have a presentable car.

Yes, if the basic freight car is a good copy, as in body dimensionally correct or very close and is of a type that is good for my time frame, doesn't duplicate an existing model that is better, that would be useful to me. If they do something like the Accurail Milwaukee box car with the separate ladders and grabs, but in the ball park price wise taking into account Kadee's and Kadee trucks and wheels, then they may have something there. I wonder which Kadee's they are going to use for couplers, hopefully the semi-scale head type.

I wish them well.
Gasp--I even have one of those Walthers Plate B 50' ACF Railbox boxcars, and I actually like it. If I'm stuck somewhere in the early '70's, when F units still lived (barely) and before the late '70's Plate C Railbox cars...well, I need it.
Also, I have to ask the question: Fox Valley Models Soo Line/Wisconsin Central 50' plug door boxcars, available fairly cheaply everywhere, versus the other guys much more detailed but $50 boxcars--which is better? (Roadname not a concern at all)
I have to take the Fox Valley Models cars, based upon price. That does not mean I don't like Moloco, Tangent, or even some ER cars (I have some), but my railroad must be more value conscious.
If the new company makes something I can use at a reasonable price for reasonable value, then I will buy it.
(I still may be on the hook for some Intermountain BNSF orange 'racks when they someday arrive - the opposite of my current philosophy, but a pre-order is a pre-order).
