Hi guys, Dan D. painted up yet another sample of our B36-7 locomotive. The tooling is about 98% finished and production begins in the spring. Gareth and Josh have this sample with them in the States and will be filming a video this weekend. We hope to have it on The YouTube next week. ...That rotary beacon...should not "rotate", as its not a rotary beacon. Its a 4 bulb stratolite, the effect is rather different, but hey, lets see what you came up with. The lens/cover should be orange, not clear as well.  |

Yes, our beacon has four tiny SMDs to correctly replicate the four-light Stratolite. Plus, of course, the clear plastic part will be orange on the production version.

That looks so much better than my kitbashed version! The hood contour looks really good, but the trucks are fabulous!
Now hurry up and finish this one so you can get to work on my BN B30-7A1B project!

Nice! Like Ryan said, it appears to have good contours, especially on the nose, cab and hood (let's just call it all of your contours!), and it looks like your T handle hood access latches are counter sunk. These are among the issues that make the "Brand A" B23/B30-7 a non-starter for modeling purposes.
But what can I say, those couplers are yucky. I can send you a pair of Sergents for your photos!

Can the horn casting be fixed? Looks a bit thick to me. Otherwise, looking good so far. I've got 6 of these pups on order.

We’re not happy with the horn either. It’s a lost wax brass casting and we’ll be improving it.
Closer to scale couplers are something that we’re seriously looking at. Won’t happen in time for this production run but hopefully in the future.

Buddy of mine makes the circuit and solders 4 surface mount LED's together to do these in HO using the DW beacon. Ngineering has the circuit as well but the thought of soldering 4 led's together, that will fit in the DW beacon, makes my head hurt. |

Please do the early 90s version of ATSF B36-7 on the next run. I want one, they ran on my district frequently, but this run is the as delivered appearance. Hard to match that yellow if I make the changes myself. Got three CSX and a SBD on reserve, am interested in an NS and CR if budget will allow. I will know by February.

Please do the early 90s version of ATSF B36-7 on the next run. I want one, they ran on my district frequently, but this run is the as delivered appearance. Hard to match that yellow if I make the changes myself. Got three CSX and a SBD on reserve, am interested in an NS and CR if budget will allow. I will know by February. Later ATSF version will happen, we’ve had so many requests for them. We’ve tooled all the extra parts and the long hood differences as well so it’s just a matter of time. Maybe buy two and make a GE B72-7 centercab transfer (C72-7? BB72-7?) Please run about 1000 extra GE cabs. Undec. Windows optional. I'll buy a bunch. ETA: pay up front OK for cabs. Not deposit, paid in full up front (presuming the price ia reasonable of course, maybe quantity discounts?). Make a minimum number to do a run. |

Well, for a photo the Santa Fe yellow looks pretty darn good to me!
I'll be buying multiple second run Santa Fe units for sure. Sound baffles just not my cup of tea.
Don't forget the 2 Kodachrome units in the second run: one with the baffles and one without. Photos in the new Morning Sun SPSF book.

These are among the issues that make the "Brand A" B23/B30-7 a non-starter for modeling purposes. Wasn't that one of the Rail Power Product shells from last century? Seems to me that any RPP shells still in Athearns current production are a fair target for a 21st-century locomotive. |

I think he was referring to Atlas B23-7/B30-7's. While they are good runners, their tooling is awful.
The Rail Power shell was good for its' time...even though it looked like it was carved from a bar of soap. At least RPP got the radiator width correct...Atlas did not.
The B36-7 has not been produced until now...and I am hopeful to see other B-Boats in the GE dash 7 line. Having seen these things at STL RPM and Trainfest with the painted sample...they are SUPERB models.

That B36 cab (I think) would fix the Atlas U33B / U36B cab with the messed up windows (plus all other 2-window u-boats). The Hi-tech details GE cab has other issues.

I will always think of “Jet” trains with GP40-2s and B36-7s up front, usually two of each. That’s how I remember them form the ‘90s and plan to model them. Gareth, the model is looking fantastic! I can’t wait to see the CSX version. Thanks again for taking on this project. GE diesels don’t get enough love, and these are an important part of the CSX fleet in the ‘90s. Dave |

If so, only way to use wire on the ends might be to make the end rails one-piece (no walkway gap in the middle) and let those who desire snip the middle section out and drop some 40 LPI black chain in the gap. Also might not be enough thickness in the end plate (where the bottom of the end railings attach) to use wire. |
