Hi all, Gareth and Josh recorded a new video of our two B36-7 samples on the North American Prototype Modelers layout in Milwaukee. The video also features spotting differences on three other units. You can watch it here: The order deadline is February 11th. If you haven't ordered yet, full info can be found here: www.rapidotrains.com/ho-ge-b36-7/Thanks for watching, Jason

Thank you so much for using a thumbnail with me in full "crazy British guy" mode. Anyway hope everyone enjoys the video, it was great fun to shoot. That NAPM layout is incredible and the guys there are the best! I could have waxed lyrical about the B36-7 for hours, and probably would have needed that amount of time to cover all the cool stuff. Please visit www.rapidotrains.com/ho-ge-b36-7/ for everything that we couldn't squeeze into this eight and half minutes! -Rapido Gareth

While a cool thing, I think that the Strato-lite might be a little fast from what I remember seeing on the ATSF thru my home town back in the days of those things. You might want to see if you can have them inoperative, also. By that I mean, lit but not flashing, with only one light lit, or even with one bulb 'burned out'. Used to see them that way as well. And hopefully you have the correct sound for production. And, yes, I've had 6 on order since they were first announced.

I’m watching the video on my IPhone 7, held upright, and the picture is not much bigger than two side-by-side postage stamps.....but even at that small size, when they showed the rear of the Conrail unit, I could clearly see how much better the radiator section is than that of the hosed-up Atlas units. Well done.
I must say that is a masterpiece of a layout, btw.

I know that the video portrays a deco-sample, however, my one critique is that you revisit that snowplow. It should taper slightly to a point in the middle along the bottom rather than be flat across as shown in the video. Yes, I am a rivet counter!

Wow.
The layout is truly fantastic, too. I really like the way they blended the scenery into the backdrop. Way cool.

Is the frame plastic? If so, I think that’s a good idea; kind of reminds me of what Railflyer was trying to do to facilitate more accurate details below the deck. Really nice locomotive, well done Rapido!
Thanks, Mark

You can see it more clearly in the picture below: Thanks for the kind words! -Rapido Gareth

All I can say is I simply can't afford $$$ era-creep so instead of me buying these amazing B36-7's that I don't need, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do U33C Ph1 (Penn Central) and 2 (D&H), U30C Ph1 and 2 D&H, and a proper Ph 1 U23B for the D&H.

Very nice! Can not wait to get my Southern, especially after I did one from an Atlas many years ago. Theres are gorgeous.
Now with he plastic frame and above mentioned adjustable bolster spacing maybe we could see the Southern B30-7A1.

So when would be a prudent time to start pounding the drum for a Phase 3 B23-7 from Rapido? Soon, ya think? Not a big jump to there from a Mopac B30-7A. And they could obsolete most of the big roadnames on the Atlas version without necessarily offering a carbon copy.

I hope I'm missing something, here. Is the entire frame, where the motor, trucks, and couplers are mounted, plastic? I remember that being one of the problems with train set locomotives. They were too light to pull anything, and the frames would droop and warp over time.

They were too light to pull anything, and the frames would droop and warp over time. It's screwed to a very robust, very heavy, metal block that keeps everything nice and straight. The whole locomotive is no lighter than a usual Rapido road unit, like the F40, FA-2, etc. -Rapido Gareth

I used this source to create various 3D printed frames for the three different lengths of Dash 7 frame and the the early Dash 8 frames. Lots of good information there along with some high resolution photos.

Not a product I need but I must say, the shots from the perspective of a helicopter pacing the auto rack train through the cornfields really capture the essence of this locomotive!

Gareth, I noticed that the Conrail unit did not have a horn. Are you guys trying to decide which of the two locations to use (just behind the cab or in the middle of the long hood)? I assume behind the cab was the as built location?
