Wow! ACF 5250 from Atlas. Wasn't expecting that. I can't tell from the flyer, but will this be the 5250 or the 5250m (longer) version or both? Hopefully they do the detail level justice to match the current level of detail from other manufactures. It's a good day.

Very excited about the autoracks!
I just don't think Atlas definition of "soon" matches mine.
Maybe they will surprise me!

This just MIGHT be the time to dump those pathetic couplers they've been using, and add the small-head Kadees.

What d'ya suppose the odds are that the 5250 will use wire for the grabs? ALL the grabs?
Here's hopin' they produce something good.

The long wait is over for a better 5250. Time to put the Athearn 5250s on ebay! I only have one of those crude Athearns since I've been avoiding anymore for the past 30 years. I've only saved it to practice weathering on. The autoracks look interesting but not the 70s versions I've been wanting. They look far too modern so my wallet is safe.

This will be a welcome addition. One hopes it will be up to the same level of detail as their competition.

Was hoping for a modern ~5200 cf 3 bay hopper, ARI or NSC, but might get a couple of these. Will the multimax have etched or plastic sides? I have a train of mostly Walthers autoracks, have been reluctant to get one of Intermountains mainly due to cost, if I were to buy one of those, I would have to replace all of the Walthers

What d'ya suppose the odds are that the 5250 will use wire for the grabs? ALL the grabs? I’d say almost zero chance, in fact, I’m pretty sure I can see their typical, semi-flat, molded plastic cross bar between the short and tall ladders on the end of the 3D rendering in the announcement. I can also see their giant, N-scale style block that holds the coupler where the scale draft gear should be. I can’t tell whether the roofwalk supports have solid plastic “fins” under them like previous ACF Centerflow models. I gotta say, normally I would wait and see, but I’m incredibly disappointed that Atlas is taking on this much-needed prototype. They have a history of continuing to produce covered hoppers with early 2000s era molded details on them while Athearn, Tangent, and ScaleTrains are offering fine separate grab irons on their models. Unless this is a project that was started by BLMA, I except to be unhappy with the final product. I hope Atlas proves me wrong. Dave

So hard to get off of! 🤣 Thats only one of them I'm riding. I have some cars that I have weathered and patched, and already the car has been sold and remarked... Then I have cars that Ive weathered for 20+ years of wear, and they go into shop and get repainted and back to looking new. My ARMN reefer train is a crapshoot, those get tagged/patched/painted constantly. 100 people could look at my trains go by and not notice a thing, but I know... I know

Hopefully, it will have separate grabs and detailed end cages...because their other ACF cars have molded on details...I'm going to wait and see...
But, it's certainly interesting.

Some clever painting and weathering can make the solid sides look more like they are actually perforated. That said, the prototype selected by Atlas is a much needed car for modern modelers.

I don't even care, I'll get them anyway. Right now it's Athearn, Bachmann, AHM or nothing. I've had Athearn/nothing for so long that if the Atlas car has decent bones I'll do what's required to make a glacier green GN car to fill out my BN grainer.

The Multi-Max auto racks will be a welcome addition for current-era modelers.
There are auto rack trains travelling on the CSX mainline running North and South in Western Ohio with The Multi-Max, Auto Max, articulated sets, older racks and 86' box cars.
The announcement says they are producing 4 different body styles which I see all the time when stopped at a rail crossing by an 80-100 car auto rack train.
These will look great combined with my collection of Atlas articulated auto racks, Athearn R-T-R/Genesis AutoMax, Proto Auto Racks and 86' box cars.

It will be interesting to see the differences offered by Atlas with this model and if they plan on producing the longer lived cousin of the CF5250, the CF5250M. It was nearly 5 times more numerous than the earlier built CF5250. The CF5250 was produced from 1964 until 1968 with a total of 3,366 cars produced, and was 53'3" inside length whereas the CF5250M was 53'7" inside length and produced from 1968 until 1982 with 14,428 cars produced. Many of the same private owners purchased the CF5250M as did the railroads. I think the tooling will mirror the Atlas CF4650, which is acceptable to me, but others may want free standing wire grabs such as Tangent. Good bye 50 year old Athearn tooling, hello something better!

Looking forward to the Auto-Racks. Be interested to see the price tag on these. With Atlas, When they say coming soon, what does that mean in a real-life timeline?

I fully expect a 49.98-ish MSRP on the hopper, and it will most likely share the same detail execution as the infamous 5701’s from a decade ago. Still, chances are good I will grab a couple since I need more pellet cars.

The hopper is the first thing to come out of Springfield this year that grabs my interest. I'm always up for ways to expand my plastic pellet fleet, so if these get even close to an appropriate car, I'll grab 2 or 3. I hear the complaints about Atlas vs. everyone else, but when they're on the layout my Atlas plastic pellet hoppers hold up credibly, and would do better if I ever detailed and weathered them.

I think there are quite a few exciting products coming from Atlas. They've already got the Trinity 3230 hoppers and NSC 7550 cu ft. box cars lined up. Adding these the Greenbrier Multi-Max & ACF 5250 hoppers to the lineup will definitely be a welcome addition to our HO-Scale fleets. Although price is becoming more and more of an issue I still think Atlas has some excellent looking freight cars that hold up to the other manufacturers and look great!

No handouts on the enclosed autorack cars or the 5250 cu. ft. covered hoppers were given out by Atlas at the show on Saturday, January 27. I asked whether the rooftop running boards on the latter would be metal, see-through plastic or what and was told that hadn't been decided. I suspect Atlas will be posting more information soon.

mmartin104,
I could not agree more, Atlas has 4 excellent choices coming for us in HO, and every one of them is a hit with me.
