My ears still ring from riding those things 20 years ago.

The undecorated model is sold out. That ETA, is just that an eta. Sometimes the cars are in a little sooner, but then you still have to wait for your dealer or online retailer to get them. The recent run of pc&f boxcars in the milwaukee scheme were in about 3 weeks early, but still took another month to get them to a dealer. I've noticed that walthers usually puts a picture of the actual model up after production of the car has finished. So, i'd say maybe mid April expect pictures on their site. I hope they do the brown SOO cars next, and other variations with rarer red SOO lettering.

Thanks milw. I would also like to see them do SOO 94, now painted and lettered for CP:

Those would be pretty good looking cars with some brake details and the grab iron set.

icg4111:
Which image is yours?
What you see in this thread are simply links to images which are posted online and are readily available through a simple google images search. That happens a lot as part of ongoing discussions in various forums including this one and has included my own images in the past. I have never heard of photographers who had an issue with others linking to their images in this way but will remove the link as you request.
To prevent this from happening again elsewhere online, you may also wish to delete your image from whatever source website you have posted it on.

Hey,sd40dash2. Did you get permission to use my picture? I don't think so!! Please remove it. Thanks. While "sd40dash2" may have "used" your image, he hasn't copied it -- merely linked to it. That's how the web works. Don't like it? Don't put up your content. Or use a photo hosting site that prohibits this sort of linking. They do exist. They work by inspecting the HTTP Referer header. If it's from a different site they return an error or show a placeholder.

The picture of SOO 94 is mine. I did not see a link when I first saw the thread, just the picture. If it is there, I'm sorry.

You put a link to the photo you want to show and it shows it if the other end allows other sites to display it.
You uploaded your photo to a site that doesn't care if someone links to it so it gets displayed anywhere.

Thanks for all the responses and support. I never meant to misuse anyone's image and regret any stress I may have caused to the photographer. Colin and ambluco are indeed correct in their description of how linking works on the web.
I am still willing to do so if "icg1411" still wishes for me to remove the link from this thread to the image of SOO 94.

The car looks sharp, in fresh paint; regardless.

Agreed. There are precious few cabooses left on the prototype, most in horrible condition, so it is now an event when we see one with modern paint.

However, that is a really nice shot, and I think that we are all glad that you took it. If it hadn’t been linked in, most of us would never have seen it. Maybe put a watermark or a copyright/ your name on it in the future so that credit can be given. Thanks for posting it.

Everyone, I am new to this, so forgive me. While I have been posting pictures to Flickr for a while, this is the first time one of my pictures has shown up somewhere else. sd40dash2, no stress caused, I was just surprised someone would want to use one of my pictures. Now that it has been explained to me, there is no need to remove the picture. For some background, the picture was taken June 17th 2018 in Bensenville. The car was sitting just east of the old Milwaukee/SOO Line engine house in Bensenville Yard. I'm glad everyone likes the picture.

Worked it a few times when I was out of Bensenville and one had to shove in and out of the NS through Forest Hill interlocking off the Belt.

Thank you, icg1411. I appreciate your understanding and am glad you are ok with the photo remaining linked here. It has added to the discussion and hopefully pointed out to Walthers that it exists.
BTW do you have some photos of what 94 looked like before? It is unusual for these to get new paint, so I am wondering if it might have received some really offensive vandalism. I guess they figure they'll still need this caboose for a while still. If you have any more photos of 56-145-series SOO cabooses that might help the body of information, feel free to link them here as I have done. I think others here will agree your contributions would be welcomed.
Best regards.

I am still willing to do so if "icg1411" still wishes for me to remove the link from this thread to the image of SOO 94. If the photographer allows his images to be shared on Flickr, Flickr has a share button that gets enabled. That's always a better choice than a direct link without acknowledgement to the photographer or hosting site. Direct linking should be discouraged, if it isn't your own image. John has sharing enabled on his flickr account... Little Red Caboose by John Fenske, on Flickr

thunderhawk- I'm not sure what job it's on, it could be the Mars job. sd40dash2- I might have a before picture of it, I'll have to check. I think it was a total rust bucket. As for other pictures, I'll have to look. I do have at least one brown caboose, but I'm not sure of the number.

Interestingly, photos of painted models for CP Rail, BN, SF, Chessie and Conrail are now available for viewing here:

I'm guessing these are decorated samples that just arrived. The SOO item is still showing only artwork.

The Soo Line Historical Society's website indicates that that railroad's extended vision cabooses built without rooftop running boards and with the roofs printed red were numbered in a series beginning with 66. The Walthers model, with those features, is shown as a drawing with the car number 65. Let's hope that maybe the firm is correcting that.

I have a large poster illustrating the differences between the various orders of Soo Line extended vision cabooses that I purchased from the Soo Line Historical Society. The text describing the cabooses that match the Walthers model follows:

fr8kr, thanks for your post. I hadn't seen what you cite. My post was based just on a pair of drawings on the society's site. So what you've posted is more complete information, and maybe the number shown on the drawing in the Walthers announcement IS correct.

Ruh-roh - the lettering on the Soo version is reminiscent of Kato's fist attempt at getting the font right on its SD40-2s, too narrow. Perhaps its not a concern being that its a part of their value line. Undecorated versions are still a welcome addition to the list of midwest-centric models developed by Walthers.
