Can it be done pretty accurately without having to mix paint colors to get a good paint match? What brand paint is good for that scheme? I remember Microscale not being the best color shade of decals tho- is there a better option?

If I recall correctly YN2 is doable right now with Trucolor paint. A friend of mine is currently working on the website for his line of decals, if you can be patient you will be rewarded with the most accurate CSX art ever done.

Hard to find now, but Pollyscale CSX blue was dead-on to Atlas and Kato's version, and darn close to Athearn's. One of the few colors everyone seemed to "agree on".

I figured the blue was the hardest to match but what yellow and gray were most people using? Does tru-color brush on well for smaller parts?

I would imagine you could dip a pin into the paint and flood the grabiron or other small objects. I haven't brushed anything with trucolor so I cannot say.

Does tru-color brush on well for smaller parts? No not really, I've never had any luck doing so. You have to lay it on super heavy to get any coverage. They do make a line of brushable paint, TCP-800 to TCP860, but I've never tried them.

Hi there! I recently worked with MCW Finishes to have correct CSX enamel paint made. These paints were matched to my drift cards which I painted with the authentic CSX blue, grey, and yellow Imron paints. I haven't been able to try them out yet and had these paints matched in anticipation of my CSX decal line in which the decals are matched to the same drift cards. Check out the paints here: mcwfinishes.com/shop/ols/search?keywords=CSX&sortOption=descend_by_matchI also had MCW match the YN3 colors from drift cards also painted with the YN3 paint. The blue is on the website but for some reason the gold is not but I know that it is finishes as I have a couple of bottles of it. - Nick O'Dell BrightFuture Decals

Thanks for that link, Nick! They have Grabber Orange! Sweet. And good luck with your decal venture. Post up your stuff when you've got it for sale.

Thanks also for posting the link.

You're welcome! Should be dead on since it was matched from the real paint :-) I will keep you guys posted on my decal prospects. I have two sheets finished and they are absolutely amazing quality-wise. I had them printed at Cartograf in Italy and, even though slightly more expensive, they knock Microscale out of the water and into the sky.

I am honestly not sure about brushing the MCW paint as I have never tried it. I would defer your question to Jason Quinn. Jason had authentic Chessie colors matched by MCW which is what gave me the idea to do the same for my CSX color cards. Jason has used his MCW Chessie paint on models and may be better equipped to answer your question.

(I only looked at the link you posted)
