A couple of my Tangent Scale Models Gunderson cars made it into the weathering que, these were pretty quick projects, some chalks and MIG track Rust washed into the ribs and door details. Superior models from Tangent! Enjoy your Sunday, Mark Hills

Wow, nice work! Tangent definitely gives you a good starting point. We finally got the girls moved off to college last week and this week has been spent putting the house together when I'm not working. Things are starting to settle down so modeling time should return in the coming weeks. Meanwhile I've squeezed in some 3D modeling here, some decal artwork there and fiddled with actual models at odd hours when I'm the only one awake. I had these 3D printed trailers decaled for the Red River RPM in June but didn't get to the detail painting stage so here we are: I also got some more trailer decals done. For awhile back in the late 80s to mid 90s I'd see straight floor vans decorated for northAmerican Van Lines. I think this was probably around the time Norfolk Southern bought northAmerican. Anyway, I figured a set that could do the straight floor vans, the drop frame moving vans and the tractor was needed so here it is: Oh yeah, I also replaced the rough Shapeways prints of the ThermoKing RMU underbody reefer unit I'd mounted to some of my trailers with some much smoother versions. They are ready for weathering when I get all that stuff back out again.

I got a couple of cars done this week. First a Front Range 1944AAR Double Door Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with Mask Island (with Hubert Mask's death will now be available from Highball Graphics Decals). Car was used in general service on the Rock Island. Next up is the old McKeen 12 Panel Triple Hopper where I cut out 4 panels to make a Twin Hopper. Painted with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Mark Vaughn's decals. In 1964 to 1966 the NYC rebuilt old 50 Ton Twin Hoppers into 65 Ton Capacity Twin Hoppers. They did this as they did not have many 70 Ton Triple Hoppers that were in rebuildable shape and most of their 70 Ton Triples were recent acquisitions. There were close to 5,000 of these rebuilt hoppers in two lots for the NYC and P&E. For comparison purpsoses here is the 65 Ton Twin with a 50 Ton Twin Hopper. Pair of modified Atlas Alco RS-32's with a general freight on the Strongsville Club Layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

dti406, any idea how late those rebuilt twin hoppers lasted? Those are very unique, did not know such an animal existed!

Thanks Rick, may have to do a couple of these conversions to put in my 1979 Conrail hopper train.

Here are a couple of pictures of my Allis Chalmers car as I ttok it for a test run around the layout. In the first picture, the car is being backed onto a yard track to be coupled onto a consist of four box cars. Here the train is starting to pull out of the yard. The load is ridiculously high.

Only one car finished this week, everything else is in the paint shop. Exactrail undecorated Big John kit. Painted with Alclad then overpsrayed with Scalecoat II MOW gray for the faded look these cars had late in life. Decals are from Microscale. Ryan, I could use some of those NA trailer decals! Great work again this week everyone.

Finally had some time to put the remaining details on my first personal car that's riding on Plate C trucks. I suppose this is a neighbor-road car, as opposed to a home-road car. It's a Branchline with shortened Moloco roof, side sill reinforcement, and lowered appliances.

In the thread about building the car and the load, I explained that I had a problem mounting the load at prototypical height because when doing so, it did not clear the turnouts. I will probably build another load that can be mounted lower, but still clear the turnouts. By the way, the load that came with car did not clear the turnouts either.

I thought so too! Actually I had painted the with Alclad to have it match my other Big John's. Seeing the Microscale decals I knew I had to do the car with them and the Alclad was to bright. I know is does not show well in the picture but the Scalecoat barely covers the Alclad you in spots you can actually see the Aluminum Clad show thru.
Finding the road numbers NS renumbered the Big John's was a bigger challenge and very few of the Exactrail cars got renumbered.

Ryan, I love all the trailer variations and decals you've been working on. Trucks are something I know very little about but certainly appreciate the wide variety of them as "loads." Thanks for sharing the update. dti406, any idea how late those rebuilt twin hoppers lasted? Those are very unique, did not know such an animal existed! L&N had some rebuilt 60 ton hoppers like that too. My friend Dan Bourque built one years ago from two Athearn 2-bay hoppers, extending the height with the second body and adding new ribs. He wrote an article about the kitbash in the March 2003 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. Here are a couple photos from his Appalachian Railroad Modeling website: L&N 60T SLS rebuilt hopper in HO by Dan BourqueL&N 60T SLS rebuilt hopper in HO by Dan BourqueI always thought it was a neat little hopper and wanted to build one myself. I even have two Athearn hoppers stashed away somewhere, but it wasn't high on my modeling priority list. Dave

Too cool Dave, will have to take a look at that article. I am a sucker for that L&N scheme.

Took some time off from work and did some modeling. Routed the strobes through cab. Added door gaskets to front and rear. 20220824_200248 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Also finally got around to painting atsf snoot nose and cab for renumbering. Had to strip it a second time to use white primer as the grey just totally ruined the yellow. Also mixed up custom yellow with tru-color paints to get close to the athearn yellow they used. 20220828_142659 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Pretty darn close 20220828_200937 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr New numberboards and decals 20220831_151116 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Spent the last 2 days adding the front and rear red marker lights, headlights and going to try this for the ditch lights so they have lenses. Glued on details west lenses to 0402 leds. We'll see how they work out tomorrow when i can i install them. 20220901_182306 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

SteveF45, if you make working strobes, I salute you. I settled for dummy lights and only made headlights and markers work.

Front and rear working strobes on all 3 units Those really look good in the video clip. Not too bright to pull attention from the scene. Good random flashes.
