A bit of progress this week, these 5 PC&F lumber cars are up to fleet standard now, weathered, kadee couplers, hoses etc. I had made a half assed start on a couple of them, nice finish them up. Have a good Sunday, go Mariners and Seahawks!

Those look so darned good that I'm actually thinking a few SP (SSW) boxcars might have to be in my future. I'm particularly enamored with the car at the bottom right. Doors that I don't recall seeing on a model.

That's a Landis door car, I really like how Athearn covered so much of the production variation on the PC&F cars, I have several more in Evergreen colors as well, eastbound lumber was big on the D&RGW.

Thanks for the Landis doors. I actually found them in stock in a couple of places. One is on the way.

Here is the last couple of weeks accomplishments. First up, another Front Range Combo Door kit, but on this one I narrowed the plug door to six feet and used a seven foot slider along with A-line sill steps, a Branchline Diagonal panel roof and some grabs from the scrap box to replace the poor grabs that came with the kit. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 then lettered with decals from Mask Island Decals. Car was in general service on the Rock Island. Next a Tangent PS 4740CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II White and Black paints then lettered with Oddballs Decals. Central Soya based out of Fort Wayne, IN promoted the planting and use of Soybeans and became a major player in the world of Soybean production. Finished the 14th and final Anderson's Pseudo Covered Hopper from a Tichy Kit. These were ex-Wabash Coal Hoppers fitted with extensions and tarp covers so ship grain from the Anderson's Maumee elevators to the export docks at the Port of Toledo. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Silver Paint (with a hint of Green Paint) and then lettered with kit supplied decals. Next a Front Range boxcar kit, where I widened the door to take a 9' Plug Door, removed the existing sill and fashioned a new sill from Evergreen Plastic, used a much better detailed Branchline Diagonal Panel roof in place of the kit roof and substituted A-Line Sill steps for the kit supplied plastic ones. Car was painted with an 80/20 mixture of Scalecoat II ATSF Red and Reefer Orange and lettered with Herald King Decals. The SLSF acquired these cars from Chicago Freight Car for use at the Memphis, TN Kelloggs plant. The SLSF at the time painted cars in different colors for the service they were assigned to accounting for these Red/Orange cars. They returned these cars to CFC about the same time the DT&I received very similar cars. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Finished up a load for my Wabash flat: It's removable with magnets used to secure it on the car. I got an Autotrain U36B that I wanted to renumber to one of the final units, but it didn't come with the rock pilot (and I believe Atlas uses an EMD pilot even if it had.) So I went ahead and made that, along with the rear pilot for Chessie GEs while I was at it. Might have to bash one of those 1974 Chessie U30Bs now!

With beaucoup props to TBird1958’s outstanding work, here is a mélange of sister Cotton Belt cars. The top two are stock Athearn Genesis PC&F models with the exception of painted wheels and truck sideframes. The middle 60’ FMC is a recent release; it has added Moloco trainline and weathered trucks (any ideas on how to weather this "primed for grime" model?) On the bottom right is an Athearn RTR 50’ACF combination door with added Moloco trainline. On the bottom left is an Intermountain FMC 50’ double door with added Moloco draft gear/trainline and Plano coupler lift levers. And one more thing….. "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?"

The photo was taken a RPM "mini-meet" held in Murfreesboro, TN yesterday. I got to see a lot of old friends - some in which I haven't seen in couple years. Since Murfreesboro was on the NC&StL mainline between Nashville and Chattanooga, I thought it would be appropriate to bring a "home-road" locomotive and some rolling stock to the meet. NC&StL 952 by James Bilbrey, on Flickr This locomotive was supposed to be a quick project that has been anything but quick. I got this back in 2020 as a Birthday/Lockdown locomotive. And while I quickly made some changes to it (Kadee couplers, the red "cap" on the smokestack and the yellow class lights), I never got a chance to run it. First time I put it on the track earlier this year, it ran fine at first but gradually kept running slower and slower even though the sound remained constant. Yep, split gear on the main driver. Since I had to order a new set of drivers, I went ahead and ordered a second tender shell. The NC&StL chopped down the height of the coal bunkers to improve the rearward visibility from the cab. So, I did the same on my model and lettered the tender using K4 Decals. Anyway, I was putting the final touches on the weathering and spraying dull-coat Friday night.

Love that 2-10-0, very nice! I'm hoping to backdate one to nearly-original appearance over the winter as used by P&R.

Before Tangent released their excellent PRR built G41A coil Rail Yard Models released theirs is a mixed media craftsmen style kit. This is the RYM version. The RYM kit was great but the Tangent model is even better.

I put a loksound with a SSS speaker in this SD24. Have it all seperate lights, including the number boards. Then modernized it a bit. Still need to do some more to it (GN/BN step wells, lower pilot plate, etc.) but for now it’s good.

Love that 2-10-0, very nice! I'm hoping to backdate one to nearly-original appearance over the winter as used by P&R. Thanks! The back-story is that the NC&StL got 5 from the Southern who were less than impressed with them. Soon after their arrival, they had shop crews cut down the bunker to improve visibility when running in reverse on locals or branchline trains. The 5 were not scrapped until 1950, which was pretty much the end of steam on the NC&StL. If you haven't done so, grab a copy of the December 2002 issue of "Railroad Model Craftsman" which has an article on backdating the Bachmann model to the as-delivered appearance on the P&R.
