Top- notch Bowser GMD CP SD40-2 5668 in its post-1979 small multimark paint scheme. This was CP's last order with the 81" nose that took place in 1974; all future orders had the 102" nose. Bowser, including all of their employees and all of the overseas factory workers plus the supply chain and final vendor all did an A1 job bringing this product to me. We often blame the manufacturer singularly when things go wrong but there are actually hundreds of people who touch the final model we see to make it what it is. These are all hard-working, regular people with their own daily life challenges just like we modellers have. I feel we should remember to appreciate the hard work they put in just to earn a paycheque and to satisfy us. I am sorry I don't know most of your names but if any of you are reading this, THANK YOU, I love the model!

Wish they (Bowser) were the ones making the U.S. version of the SD40-2, but that's another thread. If you own and run your rolling stock at some point or another it's going to need some maintenance, this car had been in operation on my buddy's layout for a couple years during which time it was involved in a couple of switching derailments - Must likely caused by Rule G Violation. Anyway, it came home and this morning I got a start on some upgrades and a little weathering. Stock end, this was an Athearn RTR car and therefore did not have the same level of detail as the Genesis variation does, here you can see the shelf coupler cut bar platform but - no cut bar. Here I've added a Moloco cut bar and platform to right on top of the existing Athearn, easy addition! The air hose is from Tangent. Some of the brake rigging had broken so I repaired most it with Tichy .015 wire, I masked the underframe and re-shot it with some TCP silver. The trucks were replaced with Tangent Barber S2 70 ton .088, as you can see, they're quite beautiful when painted up in silver. I really hadn't weathered this car, so I got a start on that, here it's had a wash of Tamiya dark earth run into the rivets and door detail.........

Started work on my Blue Rapids, KS, Missouri Pacific depot using a Cricut Maker to cut out the sides with window/door openings. The Circut software has a little bit of a learning curve, but there are a ton of online tutorials to follow and assist with doing just about anything with it. Using modified Tichy Train Group window/doors parts along with various Evergreen styrene parts and BEST 18" asbestos shingles to match the Rail Scale Models Asbestos siding. 11 May 1958 image of the Blue Rapids depot by Howard Killam

I finished up the removable load for this exactrail centerbeam: Here's the completed DRGW RBL from last week. Might go back and darken the area between the door and body and along the door tracks some more. Another sort of local hobby shop is closing. So I went over, sort of a late go as they were picked pretty clean. I was pleased to find 2 SP&S 40' boxcar kits, wishing they were CB&Q red though. TBird1958 : I like. On the brake rigging, did you drill through the supports, or glue in several pieces? I did the same thing with the moloco parts on an RTR PC&F car, but I glued it to the bottom. Might try the top mount next. Is the TCP stuff brushable?

Good afternoon from partly sunny and mild Northeast Ohio! This weeks projects completed! First up is a Proto 2000 Northeast Caboose, in the early 60's the Detroit and Toledo Shoreline acquired 3 ex-Lehigh Valley cabooses. I had to do #127 as the other two had porthole end windows. Painted the car with Scalecoat II ATSF Red and Black paints and Floquil BNSF yellow paint then lettered with Herald King Decals. Next another Front Range 40' Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with various Champ Decal sets. When the NYC started the Pacemaker Service, they could not repaint the cars from one lot fast enough and pressed a bunch of cars from Lot 773 into service by adding the Pacemaker slogan to the car. This is the second car to go with my fleet of Pacemaker Boxcars. Last week I wanted to try out my Tangent G41a Coil Cars, so I took a pair of Athearn GP9's and some other freight cars to the Strongsville Club to try them out. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Might try the top mount next. Is the TCP stuff brushable? I did drill through the center support(s) it was easy enough, I held a small piece of metal against the back side of where I was drilling. TCP does brush ok for small areas, I thin with Automotive lacquer and it flows and levels pretty well, but I wouldn't try it for something as large as the Moloco part I used.

I have to give a bug thumbs up to the Bowser SD40-2. Here is my Bowser SD40-2 redone as Yadkin Valley 5698, how she appeared the whole time on the YVRR.

My desk from Sunday afternoon, working Fresh Pond yard on a friends LIRR/NYA layout. The paperwork laying infront of the locomotives is my drill sheets for a trio of jobs to be built during the session, every job has to be blocked by customer by the yard crew or things will not go smoothly on the road. The Rapido 1200's are stand ins for SW1001s which are still being built, i'm not too thrilled with the sound or some of the details on these, but you cannot deny that they are bricks compared to the latest Walthers runs. those 3 could handle a 65 car shove up the ramp to the CSX/PW interchange no problem.

Adam, I want to know more about the ICG and PC boxcars! Sure!! The ICG is a Kadee kit done (fittingly) with Dan Kohlberg's ICG decals. The only changes I made were to substitute Tahoe A-3 trucks and add draft key detail, since that's missing on the Kadee Hydroframe-40. I noticed after paint that the tack boards should be to the left of the doors and not on them, oh well! The PC was a painted unlettered Tangent car. Decals are also mainly ICG, with PCRRHS reporting marks/numbers, Highball "cushion underframe", and a few Microscale odds and ends. I found a post-1978 view of the other side of the car afterwards, and I'm at a loss to explain how different it is. Nearly everything on the right side of the door is in a different place compared to what you see, and the dimensional data is done in a larger NYC style. One thing I changed after this picture was to replace the "2" on the side pictured with one in PRR font. It's goofy looking for now, but will make sense once I weather the car. In both photos, it's clear that they replaced some of the sheet metal on the left corner and used a different stencil to repaint the 2. rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2834145Photo is dark, but you can make out cleaner PC green on the far right corner.

Building CSX SD40E3 using a scale trains operator SD40-2 that had regular dynamic brake housing on it. Tried getting one from sxt but they never returned my email about it. So I went digging in my parts boxes and found an old blue box one that was exactly what i needed minus the molded fans. All I needed to do was remove the old athearn mounting pins and it fit perfectly. I did add the styrene to the end because i had filed it down a long time ago on an old tunnel motor project. Will ream out the molded fans for cannon fans this weekend or next week. 20221110_151944 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20221110_151949 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr
