at a show today I bought a Digitrax system stupid cheap. It's older stuff, but here's what I found:
Box for a Super Chief set 3 DCS100 (one is marked "do not work") 1 DB100 (marked "do not work") 1 PR3 (with power supply) 1 DT200 1 DT300 (missing battery cover) 1 DT402 1 UT4 (in box) 1 LNRP many UP5 panels (at least six)
plus misc cords and a manual.
I presume I can probably go on their website and figure out how to set up some of this and test it and see if I even want to use it? I can sell just one piece and be ahead on it so I'm not that concerned, and there's probably more here than I need for a 10x14 layout with maybe a 60 foot mainline loop. By the looks somebody upgraded to newer stuff and this is the old stuff.

It's absolutely usable. Just plug it in and go. That's part of why digitrax stuff is so popular, it all just works together in a way that would make even Apple jealous.

Most of it should be good to go.

with Digitrax, 'useable' is a relative term, LOL will it work and make the trains go when you hook it up? maybe. Would I recommend you use an OLD Digitrax system you may or may not have found in a box for your layout? Absolutely not. Go get yourself an NCE Power Cab. We have a Digitrax system at the club I am a member of and it regularly does things that make you want to slam your head into a wall. My NCE system at home on the other hand, has never given me an issue - ever.

Especially nice is that with NCE, you have locomotive number options from 1 to 9999. As opposed to Digitrax.
But my NCE system HAS been a bit naughty over time. Sometimes it won't go beyond the opening screen, to the one you actually use. I just turn it off and come back later and it will usually work. Other than that, yup I prefer it over Digitrax (have both).

I'm curious as to what problems you have had with the club digitrax system? How big of a system is it? By the way, everything he described, I have, and still use.

I have a basic MRC system now. It does what I need, although two-train capability would be nice.
This stuff was so cheap I can sell one thing and double my money. I figured it would be good to play with it and see how it works.
At least one of the throttles claims it can do over 9000 locomotive addresses, although I see only 2 and 4 digit options, the MRC will do 3 digit which I would use more since I usually set them to the locomotive number.

At least one of the throttles claims it can do over 9000 locomotive addresses... Digitrax can do addresses from 1 to 9983. Not to 9999. And. If you use addresses from 1 to 127, you run the risk of having problems with consisting. Which you will not have if you don't use those addresses. Yup. That's over 9000. But it ain't 9999. Of course, if you NEVER want to use 1-127 and 9984-9999, you don't have a problem. Ed

Which you will not have if you don't use those addresses. Not with Digitrax's method of consisting. If you use advanced consisting, then yes.

I started in DCC with Digitrax c.2005. I found it worked well with plug-in throttles, and programming was easy. Problem I (and some other folks I've talked to) have had is when I tried to upgrade to radio control. Even with a couple of receivers in a fairly small area, I had trouble getting it to work reliably. I switched to CVP a few years ago, and I find that just one receiver allows me to operate wirelessly anywhere in the basement.

I bought my first Digitrax system in 1999. Started out with the Ir, the simplex, then duplex, can't say I ever had any real problems with it working.

I am thinking of installing a couple of LNWIs as I really like the TCS Wi-Fi throttles.
