I have used Scalecoat 2 rattle cans over the years with very good results. However I have recently noticed there is such a thing as water based paint in the rattle cans also. Has anyone ever tried that painting a loco? I was wondering if that’s doable. It’s something for me to think about where fumes around the house aren’t an issue or worrying about the weather outside. Just curious more than anything.

Much to my surprise there really is such a thing! After a bit of Googling, it seems that MTN has the most extensive range of colors that would be useful in this hobby. No, I have no experience. Looking at reviews it seems to do the job. There are some hobby youtube videos out there. For testing purposes, I've put a can of MTN Neutral Grey into my Amazon cart. (That won't be soon because the MTN paints aren't Prime shipping and the ten-buck shipping cost at this time is a bit (OK, a lot) more than I want to pay for a test.)

Gotta check them out.

I looked up their many paint choices. Seems for my case only black would work if I painted an NS unit (maybe down the road). Oh well.
