This is a CPR 1948 Baldwin DS-4-4-1000 end cab switcher in original paint scheme. This was CP's second or third diesel paint scheme after the earlier black; all were unfortunately gone by the mid-1950s. Colour prototype photos are very scarce. The Baldwins were used primarily in BC until the last units were retired in 1983. ex-CP 7069 was preserved for display at Toronto RHA roundhouse but unfortunately not in original paint. This model is a high-quality Bowser green-box kit that runs exceptionally well. Highly customized and finished in a scheme rarely done by modellers and never by Bowser or Stewart on the DS-4-4-1000.

Still snowy..... Here's the swing helpers on Kaiser Steel unit train, they're cut in about 2/3s of the way back in addition to 4 SD45s on the head end and a pair of BB units pushing on the caboose. As the trains moves up grade the RGZ overtakes it as the dispatchers in Denver keep the railroad fluid. F Units are the cure for the common GEVO! For fun I got my model of X-67 out, here it's being shoved uphill by two very new GP40-2s....

A couple projects on Elvis' birthday. DT&I 10767 is a Greenville built 1958 cu ft hopper originally in soda ash service that found itself assigned to sand service out of Wedron, IL on the CB&Q by the late 1960s for Ford sand. Spotting feature of the Greenville cars are rivet lines along the slope sheets. These are Archer. Car is an Intermountain painted with Model Master Gull Gray, decals printed by a DT&I modeler friend. It joins the rest of the CB&Q sand fleet. Prototype photo: www.rr-fallenflags.org/dti/dti10767jpa.jpgAnother project is a pair of GM&O boxcars. 21635 and 21583 are late 1960s Frascatti Shops repaints of 1947 built ACF boxcars. These started as Atlas/Branchline kits, painted with MCW hull red and Kohlberg decals. This was my first shot using the MCW enamel on a finished model. It was a bit different to work with than the Model Master but I got pretty good results. I will be using it more in the future. Some prototype info and a prototype photo are on the Railcraft O gauge site here: protocraft.com/category.cfm?Itemid=680&Categoryid=20I believe Tom Haag also did one of these cars but it serves on his layout several years in the future from my 1969 era. Here is what I finished this week! Another IMRC 1958CF Covered Hopper kit, these are so nice that I did not have to add anything to the car. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with CMR decals. The Shoreline serviced a sand pit in Rockwood, MI where they picked up loads of high mineral content sand every day to service the glass industry in Toledo, OH. Next an Atlas 50' ACF Precision Design Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with Herald King Decals. This car was one of 25 cars renumbered and repainted from the original 154000 group for special services. Another view of my Athearn SP SD45's with a reefer block, and Dennis Nehrenz's Southern powered Auto Parts train running on the Strongsville Club layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

I finally got around to weathering my new Athearn Monon 2970 cuft covered hopper.....at least it was new when I bought it in 2007! Sometimes it takes me longer than usual to weather a car. Only mods were replacing the wheels with Reboxx wheels and adding Kadee couplers. Got any pictures of that Flatcar with steel sheet load? Love the Moon car btw, I have 2 myself.

Hi, Haven´t done a lot of modeling the last couple of months. Currently I have a Athearn Genesis SOU GP38-2 on the workbench. It is getting a sound upgrade using a custom dual sugercube speaker I found on Shapways (http://shpws.me/S3vN). Next step is adding the LED's for the headlights. Because no ditchlights installed I wil also add a groundlight. Only thing is the find out which side is correct (longhood is front). SOU GP38-2 getting upgraded with sound by G.Damen, on Flickr But the couple of weeks I will mostly be busy with the organisation of the annual Dutch Fremo US meeting. This is a modulair meeting so each time the layout need to be designed depending on the people and modules who are going to participate. Currently the layout is final. Next step is to create the a planning of the trains running and writing the leaflets for each job. Layout design for the Fremo Dutch US-Meeting by G.Damen, on Flickr
For each meeting the time period is rolled another period. After transition (1940-1960) and "Dash-2" (1960-1980) it is now "Dash-3" (1980-2000). This period isn´t written in stone but most cars should be without runningboards. Also no more oddballs like Alco/Baldwin or FM's. Just plain EMD/GE. That is also why I'm trying to get the GP38-2 ready to be used.

Car is a stock Intermountain flatcar (with Tahoe trucks). The load is made from styrene sheet held down by strapping made from thin styrene strips and Chart tape. Load sits on stripwood.

While rummaging through my parts box I found a C30-7 shell without a nose. I cut a section out of the shell and put it back together then attached a new nose. Now the long-term plan is to print an entire new hood and sill for this model but since I had a test print of this nose, the hood and an extra sill on hand, why not put them together? Here is Cotton Belt 7771, an early B36-7 that was wrecked and rebuilt without a cab.

I had to Google SSW 7771 and came across this great shot of the wrecked unit at Taylor Yard, Los Angeles CA on 09/21/81: Never knew that there were GE's with "Elephant Ears" -- though in this case they were two-piece so can hardly be called "ears". More on these units is here: espee.railfan.net/sswb36-7.html

The money shot on that engine would have been to get the C628 with the GE cab in the same photo. Probably was never possible

What did you use for snow? Is it the old baking soda method or is there a new method for snow? Looks realistic.

Santa Fe's had 'em too, if I remember right. Might've been a California thing. Those locomotives and the GP50s were Hot Stuff on the Santa Fe for a few years!

Interesting Fremo layout

I didn't "fix" it to the diorama though, I'll likely try to shoot a few more pics in a couple days then vacuum it off. The pictures were taken with a simple iphone, the lighting is two PAR38 3000K LEDs set up at an angle to simulate low winter sunlight. I like 3000K light for most of my shots but with these it cast a slight yellow tint that didn't convey the idea of winter so well, the phone's camera allows a lot of color adjustments and filtering, I kept it fairly simple with these shots and just used a "dramatic cool" filter which got rid of the yellow and imparted a slight bluish cast which I liked for "winter" . No filter "Dramatic Cool" filter

I believe Tom Haag also did one of these cars but it serves on his layout several years in the future from my 1969 era. Tim VanMersbergen I did! Those Kohlberg decals are very well done. My era is ~1974 so my car has an ACI label and the red is not quite as bright anymore,

Noise baffles. Some SOU & ATSF GEs had variations of them.
Does anyone know what color matches that interior green?

I think ground lights were used on both sides of most locomotives.

It looks close to Cascade Green I used to use on a few of my locomotives, I believe Scale Coat, none left to check to be sure.

Isn't it Detroit Diesel Alpine Green?

Isn't it Detroit Diesel Alpine Green? Looks like a pretty close match. For modeling work, Tru-Color Passenger Car Interior Green might work too. I diluted BN Green with some white for a caboose project once, and that could be a third option for those wanting to use some leftover paint.

Thanks, I noticed that on the Genesis shell on each side under the cabine a dummy light is mounted. So in this cas it would indeed be a light on each side.
