The N scale side of things has seemed to stagnate, so in an effort to give it a boost, I thought maybe we could show some of our past layouts. This is one that I started several years ago, and was my first attempt at N scale. It actually worked fairly well except that it was three feet wide, and was placed against a wall. That caused too much of a reach issue. It was a combination of Layout N-10 and N-11 from the Atlas book, Nine N Scale Railroads, and some fudging on my part. This was the left side. This was the middle. This was the right side. The size was 3 feet X 9 feet, and might have worked out well if it could have been placed island style. As I mentioned earlier, this is to get people to posting, and give something to look at when others come here, so please do feel free to continue this thread.

There's an irony... most other forums have more active N scale forums. Even the A board's N forum was slightly more active than the HO forum.

Nice layout Douglas. My first N one was also a similar one from the Atlas Nine book. had to dismantle it before it was done due to family move

Nice pics, guys. I dabbled in N scale quite a number of years ago, but Ihave no pics to share. Not even 35mm or even 110 pics that could be scanned. As I really like switchers, I gravitated towards them and found a few that ran well and some, that didn't quite make the grade. By all accounts, things are so much better than they used to be in N.

Mike, things are really much better now. Bachmann has pulled itself together, and makes a great little center cab switcher, and the Atlas MP15DC is perfect for newer era layouts.

How's this for a blast from the past... That's me with my first N Scale layout. It was a fairly simple double track loop with a few spurs and a number of buildings, many of which can still be purchased today! A somewhat wider shot. That's my brother in the background.

Douglas, if I was ever to get back into N scale, I do belive an MP15-DC would be my 1st purchase!! Then start on track, freight cars and structures. umtrrauthor, You certainly looked pretty happy back then. Are you smiling as much now?

You pictures prove that you can never be too young, or for that matter too old, to enjoy trains. I think that many of us are trying to re-live just a bit of our childhood through this great hobby.
