I am still in a 70's kick, hence this week's submission to the SPF: CB&Q 95220 by James Bilbrey, on Flickr This was supposed to be an easy project but got a little out of control. After looking at the Mainline GSC flat, I realized that the bulkheads were too tall for the CB&Q car. After, I cut them down, I then realized that the brake wheel needed to be lowered. Looking at the stenciling, I realized that it was to be loaded at a US Gypsum plant for wallboard. No problem, I will get a Jaeger Load which I didn't realize came assembled and for the Athearn/Roundhouse 60' bulkhead flat. So, that load had to cut down lengthwise. Finally, I added a set of etched ACI plates and Kadee couplers to complete the car.

I remember seeing the build thread on that center cab switcher. Another one of Dan's amazing builds. I think we have the answer to who makes the definitive E unit.... John! Late last week into the weekend I got to be part of a gigantic Free-mo layout in Elk City, Oklahoma, the Red River Run. Free-mo'ers from California to Minnesota and points in between brought their modules and DCC gear and expertise. The layout filled the better part of a 20,000 square foot convention center and the mainline ended up being around a quarter mile in length. I took a bunch of photos but I didn't come close to getting it all. It was a lot of fun meeting everyone and talking trains and finally getting to stretch the legs of some of those locomotives and freight cars that live in a box most of the year. My feet are finally starting to recover and I'm getting excited about the next time we set up.

Ryan. Nice! Is that a tank train in the 2nd photo? It is! There was a lot of cool equipment there. I think there were two sugar beet trains, several coal and grain trains and of course the passenger equipment was amazing. I should have taken more photos because there was so much to see.

I bought a case of 6 athearn undecorated automax cars about 12 years or so ago and always had plans to paint and decal them in fallen flags or at least some of them. I finally have the opportunity do so and got started. I've amassed a bunch of microscale automax data only and roadname decal sheets to make sure i had enough of the air vent decals for the 6 cars i had. Used testors rattle can glossy white as i didn't have enough tru-color white for these cars. Decals went on super easy. The EL herald and road name are custom printed. I have another road name i'll do this week that will look just as good as this does on this car. 20230128_195226 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20230129_135942 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20230129_145928 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

I've been working on a model of Rock Island E8 652. It's another BLI/Highliner bash. Absolutely amazing. Will this be in Bi-centennial paint or the yellow wings?

If I were to venture a guess, it would be that you are planning to build an early USRE Blue Island reefer: www.rrpicturearchives.net/rspicture.aspx?id=9960Looks like a fun build! I'm looking forward seeing the progress. -- Dave in the 'Couv

It's coming along, I used the Front Range bolsters, making the rest of the frame from Evergreen stock. Want decals for this one...........

Nice Rick! What did that start out as? I see the Detail West frame, is the car body Front Range? Yes that is Front Range/McKeen, and even though they are Evans cars they were built by ACF accounting for the ACF builders markings. And in my ACF Boxcar book Evans had a couple of hundred of the 14' plug door cars built by ACF. And since these cars were in Campbell Soup Service they were seen all over the country. Rick I picked up a couple of Moloco roofs, I like the Front Range one well enough ( probably some of Fred Beckers's better die work) but it has roof walk supports cast into it and I didn't want to remove them, saved for another project.

Yes, that's the car! I have several paint schemes to consider including that one, would love to do a Quinault Pacific as well. Want decals for this one........... Careful: looks like the Quinault Pacific car is Plate C while the Evans Blue Island reefer looks like a lower Plate B car. But I'm far from an expert on such things.

That car is incorrectly marked with a Plate C stencil. But also because it seems no one has ever made decals for these.
