I had some stuff show up today I'd forgotten I'd even pre-ordered. 50 foot postwar boxcars.
Based on the Dec. 29th ship date i would guess March 1 on these, plus Soo and TTX Centerbeams (the rest of those also came this week), Gundersen 7550 and 7538 boxcars, a couple more roads of the postwar 50' box car, unknown partial on the 4650 covered hoppers and Trainman 70 ton hoppers.

No, they're somewhere between here and China. What came in this week was 50' Postwar box cars and all but two roads of 73' center beam cars.
Based on when those went out, the things that show shipping Dec. 29th which includes the Gundersen cars, could come in as early as Feb. 20th, but past experience has shown it could also be as late as April 1.

Both the Gunderson boxcars and U28C/CG are in the Atlas warehouse and should start shipping soon.

No, they're somewhere between here and China. What came in this week was 50' Postwar box cars and all but two roads of 73' center beam cars. One of the roads being Willamette & Pacific? I haven’t heard about my preorder up til now. And the Atlas page is talking about the next fulfillment in Dec 2023? I hope that’s a typo. |

I just sold the one W&P I was able to grab on eBay about six hours after posting it, so yes. So you should contact your source you pre-ordered through.
I neglected to pre-order on these but nabbed a few, my source usually pads 1-2 extra per part number and sometimes people cancel so I can grab some that way.
I messed up on the postwar boxcars, should have got more of the NP Share In Freedom cars. The Reading are a ringer for a photo in the Reading Color Guide, too.
You'll have to link me that Atlas page, not sure what that could mean. The last two roads on the center beam are in the next container, Trailer Train and Soo.

Lombard Hobbies is showing stock on the U28C/U28CGs now, with an Atlas ship date of 2/16/23.
Anyone have pictures of the actual models yet? Being an all-new mold I'm curious how they turned out.

As for the Phase I U30C, it is true that it looks like a U28C - but Atlas' model of that is not yet been released either - and it is all-new (probably the same) tooling as the U28C.

Atlas has done U boats for a while. On a road trip I looked at a IC U33C, but it was used and easily 20 years old.
This was about 2002, before they released the U30C that I think was a new model.
They have done several runs since, and I hope they put the new cab from the U33/36B on new runs.
From Atlas' site they say the U30C and U28C shared a body.
I'm hoping for a U28B as RI had alot of them.

A late Phase II U28C shares the same car body as an early Phase I U30C. The linked images to the Amherst booth had a U28CG displayed, and the follow up images on Facepalm have the remaining bulk of U28C models.

I received my PRR U28C yesterday from Lombard Hobbies. Of all the colorful schemes I could have chosen... I chose this rather drab example. Such is the life of a PRR/PC modeler, but can't blame Atlas for those roads' lack of imagination. At any rate, overall I'm quite happy with the model, but it's not perfect. While I have plenty of Atlas models, my only prior U-Boat experience with them is the U33C of the late '90s, and this is much better. Some observations: - The model lacks the signature PRR "Radio Equipped" logo. Perhaps it was delivered without the logo, but it no doubt spent most of its service life with it, and after all, it does have an antenna. This is an easy fix with Raritan Bay Hobbies decals I have on hand, plus I believe the newer editions of the Microscale PRR Hood Units set have the decal. - Out of the box, the unit kept derailing its front truck, which was concerning. Upon closer inspection, I found the front axle on the front truck had popped out of the journal on one side. Pressing the two halves of the truck together popped it back in place, and it's tracking perfectly now. Otherwise, it seems to have survived shipment quite well. - The numberboard font is wrong, which is probably my #1 complaint with the model. - The holes where the sunshades are supposed to mount are surprisingly prominent. It appears the bare plastic is showing through, and I'll try to touch this up with some Brunswick Green. PRR was far too frugal to go for luxuries like sunshades. - Atlas followed Bowser's lead and represented the pilot grabs with a line of yellow paint. At some point I'll black this out and install ones made from wire. - The angle on the handrails on the mid-hood walkway step-down is wonky. It's this way on both sides. Otherwise, the railings are very straight, a nice surprise. - A distinctive feature on most GEs and Alcos of this period is the myriad of wheel slip/speed recorders. Every axle on the left side should have one, and the front axle of the right side, too (though of a different design than the left). It appears Atlas attempted to include a GE-style recorder on every axle both left and right, but didn't include the cables, and it would probably be difficult to add these. It would be easier had they left these off altogether so I could use the Detail Associates part that does include the cables. The Rivarossi U25C has all of these recorders and they add a lot to the model; I'd love to get my hands on those as spare parts but I imagine that would be nearly impossible. Anyway, enough nit-picking, it's a cool model and I'm enjoying it. I mistakenly thought the Reading and PRR U30Cs were in this batch, but I guess I'll have to wait on those. As for the Pennsy U30C, am I right to assume it'll be identical to this model except for the number series?    |

I've found that PRR scheme attractive ever since I first saw it on an AHM U25C. Still do.
When you've pasted keystones all over something painted off-black, you've pretty much shouted Pennsy. But quietly.

Question: Are the handrails glued or melted in place? I'm thinking of getting an undec but if not I would like to remove the handrails to strip the paint.

The handrails don't appear to be melted in place, not sure about glue. I made a few modifications tonight, touched up the sunshade holes with some Polly Scale Brunswick Green, and added the "Radio Equipped" decals. I also touched up the silver contact strips on the trucks with black, and painted the right side pickup wires black as well, as they have gray insulation. I also noticed the model lacks pilot footboards, which a PRR unit should have (hence the pilot grab iron). I may have extras in the parts box left over from the older U33C model.  |

the radio equipped dot is such a distinct spotting feature for late PRR that adding it is a must. those sunshade holes have always been one of my least favorite things about atlas, those look to be even larger than the older ones which on a darker unit like that shouldn't even be noticeable. doesn't help that once mounted, they tend to be the first thing that gets broken if the unit spends any time being moved in and out of it's box. however its an atlas unit, so it will run to the absolute end of the earth, take it how it comes with our friends in hillside.

Umm, why not simply fill the holes with squadron putty, wet wipe off excess, touch up paint and be done?  Also, just which Bowser engines have a painted-on grab instead of actual wire? |

That's a bit more work than I wanted to undertake tonight, plus I don't have the putty on hand. The Bowser C430 has the painted-on grab. |
