"he's a part-time professional musician with great ears...." rare bird. My long time pro musician brother can't hardly hear dinner call....

I think Atlas is still having some issues getting locomotives made.
It could be worse, you could be waiting on RS1s. Preorders closed on those the end of July 2018

I've looked for both GE models using either U-25C and U25c. No difference. --- Ken

If I can figure out which CV will remove one offending sound, I'll be happier with this engine. I finally found in the Loksound instructions 16 CV's that I can attempt to take it out.
Edit: Epic Fail. Again, I downloaded and searched throughout the Loksound 5.0 Instructions to try to discern which CV's will allow me to turn down one of the sound components in the engine idle. The instructions specifically state that CV's 155 through 170 are used to control various sounds. I tried turning each and every single one of those CV's to 0. None of them made ANY improvement in the crappy high pitched component of the engine sounds or any changes to the engine sounds at all.
My only partially workable solution has been to turn CV 63 down to 20. That way there still IS a horn sound and the awful engine idle is turned down so far that it can hardly be heard. NOT really a solution at all.
For what these things cost now, and even considering the lights are really cool and the loco detailing is very good (but certainly not as good as what either Genesis or ScaleTrains currently offer) the less than desirable (to put it mildly) sounds are overall very disappointing. I should not have to open up this engine and rip out and replace their speaker.
Right now that seems like the only real option.
If anyone is aware of any way to equalize the Loksound 5.0 settings, I would be glad to hear it. I really like that with Tsunami sound one has the capability of equalizing the sound settings to get the best possible result to one's ear. I wish that Loksound was more cooperative and/or helpful.

When the early U-30C's get here we actually will have all the early U series 6 axle units !! Been a long wait. I wonder if either Rivarossi/Hornby or Korean Brass will ever rerun the U-25C's ? They are almost impossible to find now. -- Ken There are lots of KB and R/H U25C's on ebay. A few months ago I picked up a KB for about 90 bucks from Trainz.com.

Behold the power of the proper search term aka real name!
I also found more U25Cs by searching on "U25C" vs "U25-C", which is not a thing.

When I switched to HO one my first locomotives was a Pennsy U25C I found it in the last seconds of an auction and got it for $80. I got PC unit later so I don't need more two will suffice.

I really liked those Rivarossi U25C models. Great value on the ACL ones a couple years back when someone was dumping tons of them onto eBay. Would be cool to see another run with some SCL versions, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
