Hey guys, I’ve been having issues with a couple Loksound V5 decoders. Aux 3 and up are not working, the voltage at the solder pads are 14vdc and can not be turned off, LEDs just stay on. I enabled the aux outputs I needed in lokprogrammer but they won’t toggle off. Is there anything I’m missing?

You didn't say say specifically which variety of Loksound decoder you have, but on some versions, AUX3 and AUX4 are logic level outputs and require the use of an external transistor board to amplify the signal. The ESU 58821 LokSound 5 Direct does not support Aux 3 or Aux 4 as powered outputs located on the motherboard. They are logic level only.

Mark. ok that makes sense, this decoder is from a Rapido loco and all outputs worked when it was installed on the board. I repurposed the decoder in a very small loco so there is no room for a motherboard. Is it possible to wire in a transistor just to get one of the outputs to work? Do you know which decoders do support logic outputs without the motherboard? Thanks for the clearing this up for me.

Simplest method is to go to the ESU Loksound page and check out all the variations. Their descriptions say the number and type of outputs.

Functions We are quite aware that you want your locomotives to be as realistic as possible. Therefore we have packed many function outputs into it. Subject to the type of interface every LokSound 5 has at least 10 amplified outputs. The decoders with PluX22 or 21MTC interface have an additional 4 outputs for controlling servos or as logic outputs. Of course, all important lighting functions are supported. The brightness of each output may be adjusted separately. The decoder supports the automatic push and pull movements – known as the coupler waltz - required for reliable operation of digital couplers such as the ones by ROCO® and Krois® as well as Telex® couplers. The Loksound V5 Manual has a table explaining each type on Page 10 and 11. www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/
