Does anyone know when the Rivarossi Big Boy is supposed to arrive in the US? Also, does anyone know if this is similar to the old Rivarossi Big Boys?

As far as I know, it's the same tooling that dates back to the 70s (60s?) from the AHM days. They have made a number of small upgrades to it over the years, but the details are still quite crude by modern standards. There are plenty of other Big Boys on the market that are a lot better than the Rivarossi model.

Thanks, my friend has one on order because he's worked on old Rivarossi Big Boys from the 70's and was hoping this one would be a lot better than the old ones. Sounds like it will not be much better which explains why it's cheaper than other Big Boys.

The flange on the wheel on the 6th driving axle is floating. Really not a good sign.
If I wanted a Big Boy, I'd get a PFM one for about $750 (painted). If the tower gear noise bothered me, I'd either get someone else's for more money, or re-do the drive. I'd add DCC and sound.
I expect when I was done I'd have a very nice articulated. VERY nice.
