I have a Athearn RTR sw1500 with a speaker, leds and decoder buddy board already installed, all I need is a 21pin sound decoder of my choice. All my sound locos came installed factory or in this case by someone else, I'm looking for someone to point out who makes the best sound decoder for this particular engine? I believe it would be a EMD 645e prime mover, I'm just a little overwhelmed with the options never having bought a decoder separate before.

Hi, All the actual decoders are good. More important is to choose a decoder who fits with your other decoders you currently have. If most engines have a Tsunami, just get the right Tsunami. If it is ESU find a dealer who programms the decoder with the appropriate soundfile for your engine. projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/search?q=sw1500Gives you the SW1500 appropriate files. Ignore the Select and V4 files and checkout the V5 files (with HIFI in the sidebar). All three have the option to listen to the sound. If you instead prefer the sound from a V4-file above a V5-file you can also let the dealer (or somebody else with an ESU-programmer) upload that project in a V5 decoder.
