Getting started on this..... Advanced turd polishing! This post inspired me with doing another of these cars, I noticed in my ACF book that the Green Bay and Western had these cars built to Evans specifications so I did one. First another old AHM Covered Hopper, where I removed all the bookcase ladders and replaced them with ones from the scrapbox and added all the airlines for the braking system. Car was painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray and lettered with Highball Graphics decals. Used in various services on the Rock Island. Next, a Front Range Combo Door boxcar where I replaced the sliding door with another plug door from the scrapbox leaving the car with a 6' and an 8' plug door. Also installed a Cal-Scale Hyrdo Cushion system on the frame and Moloco ACF style coupler pockets along with A-Line Sill Steps. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Black, Reefer Yellow and Silver paints then lettered with a mixture of AA Historical Society, Highball Graphics and Herald King Decals. The GBW ordered fifty of these cars, 6 were assigned to specific canning plants and the rest were free runners. Underframe Construction: Finished Car: A Pair of Rapido FA-2's in Ann Arbor with a general freight rolling on the Strongsville Club Layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Now for a little relief. Plate C Model Prototypes has released a 1970's style of port-a-potties so when I ordered a PRR F41 flatcar I also tacked this onto my order for this much needed model.

Busy building loads for the upcoming ClassOneModelworks depressed flat cars. The two on the left are 3D printed by Feisters miniatures. The small transformer is from Artitec and the one on the right is a small transformer from Kibri. Depressed flat car loads by G.Damen, on Flickr Three loads primed. The one on the stick is an old Kibri-kit. The two others are 3D-models made by Feisters Miniatures (Etsy). Next step is finding a suitable color for the transformers (suggestions are welcomed) and the pipe.

Stuff on my desk this morning............ I've been picking at this for awhile, it's the continuos sill frame for a CB&Q 130XXX series tank car, I've cut away all the molded walkway and crossmembers and replaced it with Plano material and Details Associates flat brass stock. It has a ways to go but it's an encouraging start. An intermountain PS-1 with the cushion underframe, this is quite a bit more work to bring up to standard than I initially thought, it's getting close but still needs the air hose mount on the coupler and a set of the correct cut bars - which Intermountain doesn't provide.

Next step is finding a suitable color for the transformers (suggestions are welcomed) and the pipe. Honestly, I like the Tamiya Grey primer color. Most substation transformers are a similar grey. I'd pick out the insulators with a ceramic color like oxide red or give it a wash with black lacquer. Depending on the era, a light or medium green may work too. I like Tru-Color Passenger Car Light Green Interior. It's a good match for that 'industrial green' used in locomotive cabs or power station equipment. flic.kr/p/fmPQ9Ncommons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Emd_567B.jpg#/media/File:Emd_567B.jpgFor some variety, a steel blue-green would look good. Tamiya XF-18 Medium Blue is a greyish blue and would provide some good contrast to the lighter grey ones.

Most transformers I've seen are a green very much like the trash can lid, usually lightened some by weathering OR light gray. Some white. "Oddly", I'm looking at a transformer and two big electrical cabinets across the street right now- faded olive and UP gray.

Thanks, I have that color to my disposal. I do think that I need to make it a bit lighter, but indeed it would make a different look and still be believable.

[/div][/quote] I have some grey-green paint from Vallejo, a bit like the color Artitec used. That is a nice option for the 3D-ttansformer. The pipe can also be made oxide-red.

All I have to share today is some virtual modeling. I picked up a Rail Power CF7 kit from Railmaster Hobbies on Tuesday. The kit came with a round cab. I wanted an angled cab, so I drew this up in Alibre Design. There are some refinements I need to make, as well as a few more details to add on the cab before I call it finished. Though the shell that I have pre-dates the Athearn acquisition, this new 3D cab would be applicable to the post-RPP Athearn RTR CF7. In order to get details placed as accurately as possible, I drew them atop a photo overlaid on whichever plane/surface that was receiving the detail. The toughest part is finding good, large photos of side, front, and rear end shots. There is a tad bit of modeler’s license use as this cab is being fitted to an existing locomotive shell. However, there are no large deviations from the prototype as far as I can tell. The RPP CF7 is crude by today’s standards, but I really like this locomotive, and hope to fix this one up nicely! Hopefully, I can run a test print overnight tonight. Donnell

Started weathering a Moloco PC&F car this week. Second one of theirs I've weathered, but the first one that's really dirty. Only one color of oils so far, but it's starting off nicely!

Rick Jesionowski Thanks, Rick I have a shot of one of the cars in James Kinkaid's Morning Sun book, it looked like it did have the hydra cushion cylinder, checking the P-S library photos now shows me to be wrong. Will change it, thanks again.

A small project, but one i've been meaning to take on. I cannot stand to look at what passes for a solid bearing truck on most of the basic walthers mainline cars. so I went and weathered up a dozen pair bag of accurail bettendorfs which are a simple swap in job with no modification to the car. the appearance improves significantly Cheap solution for a cheap car, cant go wrong.

Wow!! You continue to amaze with your ability to draw this stuff up! Bob After looking at the drawing and comparing it to the prototype, I noticed that I drew the cab doors too tall. I found a great head-on (front-on) photograph and was able to overlay it on my drawing to get the most accurate placement and sizing of detail. This method is the next best thing to laser scans and blueprint as longs as you have at least one good known dimension of something on the subject in the photo. Thanks Donnell

Donnell, I'm sure you have no shortage of projects but between plows and now this, I offer up the idea of doing aluminum retrofit cab doors. There are none on the market and they have been in use on spartan cab EMD's since the 90's.

Donnell, if you can find this book it is loaded with CF7 photos. It also has a drawing (can't attest to accuracy). Supposedly from RMC November 1985. Here's a head on shot from the book. If you would like any other shots of the cab or engine, just let me know. Bob
