At the risk of showing my increasing age and posting another "here we go again" thread, can anyone tell me which Athearn boxcars have been retooled to the correct dimensions? I'm pretty much talking about the former MDC Roundhouse boxcars, but I also wonder about the PS 5344, which I believe Athearn tooled on their own. Overland posted up some Athearn RTR PS 5344 boxcars and I'm wondering if I should just wait for ScaleTrains to run the ExactRail version of that car or if I should give serious consideration to the Athearn model. I'm not interested if it's still the widebody.

I want to say that MILWmodeler or Janek posted that these boxcars were revised with correct wodth bodies.

It would be nice if these revised models had some sort of a "-2" designation, signifying new and improved.
How will I know when I'm looking at some Athearn box car whether it's too wide or not?
I think it's swell that these old cars are getting fixed up, but it's very "hesitational" when you're looking at a pile of cars, which ones are the good ones. And that means I will likely pass on a purchase unless I KNOW.
Which means Athearn loses a sale.

If someone knows when they were revised, then anything with a copyright year of that and later would work.

My understanding was that the FMC 5347 wasn’t dimensionally off, or at least it’s quite close compared to the other cars. The retooling was to allow for different doors to be used.

The MDC 5347 was also a wide body. I have 2 undecorated ones, item # 1950. What I’m going to do with them is the question 😁 Steve
