This kind of stalled out at this point due to the CB&Q heralds from Microscle not looking so good against the car, just not near enough red in the border so I picked them off with some tape. I shot a coat of clear gloss on and ordered some Champ decals specifically for this car, they' quite thick and should have better registration of the red. Here's a couple oldies too.

I've gon crazy. I made a steel beam load: Also did a very light weathering job on the CNW car. So now I have 3 loads I can switch around between these Gondolas. I weathered the SP one as well, but I didn't take a photo.

Finally got one out of the shop this week. Started as an Atlas Trainman ACF. Replaced the ends with resin castings, removed all the cast grabs and made mew wire grabs, doors replaced with resin castings. Prototype is a Railbox transferred to the MP all in the 357000 series. Still needs some weathering but in due time.

^ Interesting and congrats on snipping the un-prototypical trip pins. Any photos of the u/f to show draft gear and train line routing?

I have an "outa sight, outa mind" perspective on underframes detailing, which means I'm pretty much a "sorry a**, lazy a**" when it comes to that level of detailing! The underframe on the McKean was and is very primitive. I defer to fr8kar, Christian, Tbird and many others far more skilled than I. Someday I'll tackle one when my competence improves and my fingers get thinner!

I did some digital modeling over the past week, focusing on a project I scratched the surface of last year. I have a keen interest in 80s intermodal modeling, when double stack cars and spine cars came into their own and when domestic containers had finally become more than a novelty. So last year I modeled and later printed a refrigerated container based on a sheet-and-post design built by Nippon Fruehauf. As I was drawing the components it became clear that there were a lot of possibilities if I came up with body, nose and door variations. But until this week I just knew it was possible, I hadn't actually done the work. Here are some renderings showing a few options. These will make it possible to model various Sea-Land, NYK, Showa, Hapag-Lloyd, Mitsui OSK Lines and Hanjin dry and reefer containers, among others. Sea-Land K Line Mitsui OSK Lines This is not the most exciting thing I've drawn, I know, but the thought of having proper Sea-Land or MOL containers or early K Line and Hapag-Lloyd reefers is satisfying.

^ Sigh. I wish I could learn to draw like that. You make it seem so easy but that learning process for me was anything but. So I'll just continue to admire your work.

Goofing off with some initial scenery practice downstairs on my "test" layout. Also pictured is today's efforts on a new Atlas FMC 5077, UO #1508. I installed Freightmaster ME-15 draft gear, then painted and weathered the underframe and components around that installation. Inventive Model's type Es for couplers, and Tangent trucks with .88 wheels. The U1 dot on the Atlas car was comically large, so I replaced it with a Microscale U1. Everything on the bottom is complete, weathering on the body will begin shortly. Atlas did a really nice jobs with these cars...this car is so cool. There is very nicely modeled roof overspray. I also bought an RBOX and SCNT from this release. The RBOX got Moloco non-cushioned draft gear already, but that's not nearly as exciting as the work on my UO one. I painted and decaled 3 Tangent GATC 4500 kits for my freelanced road. The color in this pic shows lighter than they are (well, the ones with the round logo actually are a shade lighter than the top one.) It's really somewhere between the gray on an SCL airslide and a 60s/70s UP hopper. The center car is nearly as-delivered paint, bottom car has some obvious updates (actually caused by the fact that I somehow didn't have enough data on my sheet!) and the top car is an early 70s repaint.

Eight but I am currently in the procurement and engineering phases for those not shared here yet. New thread inbound as soon as everything is underway on them. Also have to finish 437110 first but took a quick breather to start a SPF thread.

A lot of good stuff moving lately on here. Love the attention to small detail. Here is the current state of my somewhat-foobie-ish car, that has turned into even more of an incorrect specimen. Classic example of getting tunnel vision. Dave Olsen and a few other will see it right away, but at any rate. It's going to have a nice appearance as it rolls by, although the fit leaves a little to be desired as well. A basket case that I'll end up spending far too much time on. Tangent trucks of course, and ICG decals for the ACI and dual panel COTS. Gouache for the trucks and wheels, so far.

Finished up another project. Since I've been working on some UP steam locomotives lately, I needed a steam era caboose to run with them. I bought this Walthers UP CA-1 caboose a few months ago. It was billed as RTR, but it's more of a kit with plenty of parts to add, including dozens of wire details to install....which was a real tedious task. Also accidently jabbed my thumb into the tiny drill bit and broke the bit in the process. That hurt a bit. It's mostly stock, but I did add cut lever and brake hose details to both ends. Somewhere down the road I will add working marker light details.
