Unlike the "other" locomotive announced this morning, at least the ST model will sell.

I think it’s neat, who doesn’t love big standard cab EMDs? Since it’s SP I’m sure it will sell. Still a lot cheaper than brass and I think it will be better anyway.

I don't recall any hate for the SDL39. I have nothing to do with them but I thought they were really cool. It goes without saying that with the Museum loco's, many wallets are safe. *rolls eyes* The hate was because they came with warped walkways and had the wrong ride height. Had they been perfect, I might have bought one of the WC ones, they remind me of B-Shorty or O-27 trains.

As someone who has built a SD45X (and a SD40A using Athearn's SDP chassis, so it does work), I can tell you that there is practically nothing from the SD45 that can be used on the SD45X. It is all new tooling. And Scale Trains has gone to the trouble of even noting some variations of how the grey and scarlet was applied when the ex-demos got repainted. Elizabeth
Your model is a beauty, not being a student of much EMD, it's an impressive brute.

And from what I am hearing that botched delivery will affect sales this on this at least with a few people I have talked to in the past few hours. The SDL39 was supposed to be so amazing and it ended up being a pile of poorly executed crap.

This is just creative re-using of that existing chassis plus 'most of' their existing SD45, assuming they were smart enough to tool it with modular sections that can be changed out, or in this case, re used. As someone who has built a SD45X (and a SD40A using Athearn's SDP chassis, so it does work), I can tell you that there is practically nothing from the SD45 that can be used on the SD45X. Speaking of "Museum Quality", well done! And thank you for the knowledgeable response as well.

Very Good, the price of my Precision Scale SD45X just increased in value - thanks Team ScaleTrains.com
Seems to be a good time to be modeling the Southern Pacific in the 1970's

For any doubters, the SP SD45X Museum Quality is now sold out at ScaleTrains. The demonstrators version aren't far behind. I ended up pickup the 9503 SP version.

Not that I'll buy one but I'm glad that ST can do niche locomotives like this and the SDL39. Shows they are doing well with their "normal" offerings.

Saw a video review and the model looks very nice. Great for the Southern Pacific fans.

If you preordered such that ScaleTrains notifies your order is in they give you a couple weeks to pay. If you don't they go back up for sale on the website so some may come back in stock later this month, around Sep 27

If Scaletrains.com decides to have a sale on the HO Turbines (for $450) I'd get one or two more of them.
