I made another load using the remainder of the beams I had cut and painted earlier. I picked this car because the plate steel load i made out of steel banding brought this car's weight to 12 ounces. Now it's more reasonable. Lightly weathered this walthers autorack. I disassembled this genesis caboose for weathering. These are surprisingly easy to take apart. Kinda wish the end markers were brighter though. For something completely off the wall. I repaired this GN S2 and removed whatever decals were on this as they seemed more like stickers or something. It's originally unlettered, so I'm starting over with microscale decals. I'm not certain if I'm going to do anything else with the caboose or S2 today as I've already started celebrating my 34th lap around the sun.

The end markers are a huge disappoiment on the extended vision cabooses for sure. Athearn should have put an LED there and not ran a light tube there from an LED.

Now it's more reasonable. That is a REALLY big load, there is a good chance it would be much too heavy in real life. I'm sure there is a way to calculate the weight of an I beam of a certain size, it should be possible to find out the maximum number of beams that could be carried. The load itself looks really good though!

However the cans are sorta pricy. I might try krylon dark metal next go around as it's about half as much per can

It is hollow on the inside though, they probably don't do that in real life though
Thanks for the compliment though.

wow, can't say I've ever seen a beam load that big in real life. Usually only one, maybe two full layers. Must be lighter beams than the ones I usually see locally.

I'm working on weathering a Tangent G43A. It's based on a 1978ish photo and already it looked very rough! Reporting marks totally gone and restenciled.

Had some Champ CB&Q heralds show up in the mail, they're a huge improvement over the Microscale, the opacity of the red border is quite nice now. Here, the model has been gloss coated twice and then dullcoted - Now it's ready to be weathered. It's not too warm here......

Good afternoon from sunny and warm Northeast Ohio! I missed last week so you get a double dose of modeling. First another Tichy Panel Side hopper car, painted with Scalecoat II Black paint and lettered with Mark Vaughns Wabash Decals. This car was an USRA clone built in the 20's and rebuilt in the late 30's with panel sides to increase capacity. Keeping with the Wabash, an IMRC ART Refrigerator car kit, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow, Boxcar Red and Black paints then lettered with Champ Decals. The Wabash and MP formed ART to bring produce from the Southwest to the Midwest and Eastern markets. Finally and pair of prepainted Bowser H21a hoppers, the PRR had 36,000 of these cars in coal and iron ore service. Another Tichy Panel Side Hopper car kit, painted with Scalecoat II Black paint and lettered with Mark Vaughn's Wabash decals. This was another USRA clone car originally built in 1923 and rebuilt in the late 30's with panel sides to increase capacity. Next, an IMRC 50' DDR Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2 and lettered with Highball Graphics decals. The DT&I had several hundred of these cars in auto parts service for Ford. Essentially they were a warehouse on wheels and would be fished out of sidings when Ford needed the parts. A pair of Bowser Alco RS-3's with a coal train made up of H21a, H22 and GLa hopper cars running on the Strongsville Club layout. Finally, a pair of Athearn GP40-2's with an auto parts train running on the Strongsville Club layout. Have a good weekend. Rick Jesionowski

I hadn't had a chance to run my ScaleTrains DRGW GP30 until yesterday I ran it on a local switch job with my Atlas DRGW GP40 at the Caldwell Model RR Club. The Atlas unit gave me a lot of trouble yesterday, so I will go into detail on that in another post. The ST GP30 ran just fine after adjusting the momentum.

I'm looking forward to seeing it weathered and photographed outdoors as you do. One thing your photo does highlight and that's the weird thing they did with the "g". It hadn't struck me before so I had to go back and look at prototype photos!

Colin, the position of the "g" seems to vary depending on the car type, looking at boxcar shots it appears the the lower portion of the letter is below all the others. What a cool railroad the "Q"!

I've noticed opacity is a problem with some of the more recent Microscale sets. Compared to their older decals, colors like reds and yellows just aren't as intense.

Started a project that's been in my head to do for 13 years or more. Took the step this week when i was able to size the blueprints i got from nj transit to ho scale. Just need to get the nose and cab printed and the donor gp40-2 to start mock up. What it started out as in real life, a GP40FH-2B and what it was turned into, MPI MP20B-3 2023-08-28_06-57-00 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 2023-08-28_06-57-19 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Sizing up doors to sized blueprints to make sure i was good 20230826_135719 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Engineers side done. The rear doors that were 50" were cut in half then sized and the chopper was used to get them to proper size. Some were off but i've used my mr hobby primer filler to clean and fill the gaps. Will sand it down this week and repeat if necessary. The donor SD60I rear long hood end and roof section are laid on to it too. The radiator fan portion will be reworked as the fan spacing is smaller on the mp20. 20230826_182051 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20230826_182056 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr
