My experience in N passenger equipment goes back 30 years to ConCor. My current passenger equipment is Rapido and Kato. I just bought a couple of recent production Centralia coaches which, as most online thread acknowledge are beautiful in appearance.
I have added American Ltd diaphragms to almost all of my Kato passenger equipement and like the effect. I was very surprised in coupling the Centralia cars to each other how far apart the cars were.
For running on broad curves (24" radius and up), I would think the cars could be closer together. The diaphragms could sure compress a little.
Has anyone body-mounted couplers to do this?

Bill, Yes, I have body mounted couplers on just about every make of N scale passenger cars, including Centralia cars. With the diaphragms lightly touching they will go around a 19 inch radius curve. I use Z scale couplers, the larger N scale ones can make it difficult to uncouple because the diaphragms get in the way and there is no room for the coupler head to be pulled away from the oppossing coupler. Thanks, Bill. You're the master; I've admired your work for years.
I was considering body mounting the couplers a little bit "back" in order to pull the cars closer together and compress the diaphragms a little -- not a lot but a little since they seem to be really far apart and look silly. This is a shame since the cars themselves are very nice looking.

Thanks. I would experiment with that. Glue the couplers on one end of two different cars and test them first. Good Luck. Thanks, Bill. You're the master; I've admired your work for years.
