It's funny how so many people brandish "rivet counter" as if it's an insult whereas it as actually a compliment.

It's funny how so many people brandish "rivet counter" as if it's an insult whereas it as actually a compliment. Hello. My Name is Christian [Hello Christian - How's it going, guy? - Welcome to the meeting, grab a doughnut]
I AM A, RIVET COUNTER!
[Huh?-So what?-Hey man, give us a real problem)"Rivet Counter" is thrown around by more hobbies than just trains. I snagged Franko from a toy soldier group. I think it has really defused in the past few years and become almost a badge of "in-ness" or a joke. ScaleTrains certainly helped.

It's funny how so many people brandish "rivet counter" as if it's an insult whereas it as actually a compliment. The usage of "rivet counter" as an insult has dropped a whole lot over the years, perhaps because there are so few rivets to count anymore. Perhaps we should use "Code 88-er". Maybe "fine-boy". Or, as just noted above, perhaps the rivet counters refused to see the term as an insult: "Why, thank you, sir. How very nice of you to say so." I remember the term being flung frequently on the Kalmbach forum. I suggested the counter-term of "tinplater" (is tinplate track still produced?). Ed

In my experience anyone who is using "rivet counter" as an insult is someone extremely insecure about themselves or their modeling.

In my experience anyone who is using "rivet counter" as an insult is someone extremely insecure about themselves or their modeling. Sure signs of a bad modeler: - uses 'Rivet Counter' as an insult - calls you a 'nitpicker' for pointing out any and all issues with their modeling, no matter the severity - invokes 'Rule 1' ('my railroad, my rules') as an excuse for their bad modeling
